Get your volunteer hours while working alongside our Urban Horticulture Program staff and Master Gardener Volunteers from 9 AM - 12 PM. Help protect and restore the learning environment at the UF/IFAS Extension Office. Learn about the principles of Florida-Friendly Landscaping and how to apply them to your own landscape to decrease your footprint on our South Florida environment.

In partnership with the incredible Barnacle Society, UF/IFAS Extension Miami-Dade County Office will be participating in the 1st Annual Barnacle BioBlitz Fest to celebrate our community’s conservation wins and to contribute to an important citizen’s science initiative.

Walk through a luscious tropical hardwood hammock, capture photos on iNaturalist, and identify every living creature you spot — every finding counts toward real conservation impact. Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a guardian.

Learn how harvesting rainwater when it is abundant can help reduce pollution from stormwater runoff and provide a supply of free water for your garden during the dry season. Attendees qualify for a $50 rebate through the Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department’s Rain Barrel Rebate Program when they apply online through the WASD website. Attendees must be present for the entire workshop to qualify for the rebate program.

This Saturday:

Join us for an informative workshop exploring Florida’s unique water resources, the importance of protecting our aquifers, and how harvesting rainwater can help conserve our drinking water supply while reducing stormwater runoff and pollution. You’ll discover how a rain barrel captures rainwater that would otherwise flow into storm drains, allowing you to reuse it to water plants, gardens, and landscapes.

Attendees who complete this educational presentation will qualify to receive a $50 rebate toward the purchase of a rain barrel for installation at their home.

Limit: Two rebates per household. Barrel must meet program specifications.
