Co-Chair: Meredith Peterson

HISTORY:

The Local Task Force (LTF) system was
established in 1972 as part of the Consent
Decree between the Commonwealth
of Pennsylvania and the PA Association for
Retarded Citizens. The PARC Consent Decree
guaranteed a free public program of
education for all school-aged persons with intellectual disability or thought-to-have intellectual disability regardless of their intellectual functioning. MEETING SCHEDULE

Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every
month at the Allegheny Intermediate Unit offices at the Waterfront in Homestead from 6:30 till 8:30 p.m. We have no meetings in July & August. Parents and interested parties have a welcome place at our meetings with concerns and/or topics about Special Education in your School District. You can also call the "Parent Assistance Line" at 412-394-5930 if you have any questions or need assistance with a Special Education issue regarding your child. Your involvement helps assure the students' right to a free and appropriate education.

Please join us virtually on Monday, November 2, 2026, from 7:00–8:00 PM for our monthly Parent/Family Support Meeting, “Unlocking Possibilities: Assistive Technology & Family Resources.” We are excited to welcome Wendy Davis from the Pennsylvania Assistive Technology Foundation (PATF) as our guest speaker. Wendy will introduce us to PATF, share more about the work they do, and highlight the many resources they offer to individuals of all ages with disabilities and their families.

Assistive technology encompasses much more than what we typically think of as “technology.” It can include high-tech devices as well as low-tech solutions, such as a fence to help prevent elopement for a child with autism or a paper communication board. These resources are designed to help individuals access the technology, services, and supports they need to increase their independence and enhance their quality of life.

If you are interested in learning more about PATF and the resources available to individuals and families, we encourage you to join us. To register, please contact Vicki Donne at [email protected] or Deanna Hiltz at [email protected], or complete the Google Registration form at https://forms.gle/qm11GKm6WQjcGqKY9. Upon registration, you will receive a Google Meet calendar invitation with the meeting information.
