Got a new garden flag this week, to plant next to our Little Free Library! 🥰

🗳️ Which reminded me: we have a local election happening! I haven’t figured out who all I’m voting for in the April 1 election just yet — we’ve got high school board, library board, village trustees, and mayor on the line. But I do know that I am casting one of my two Library Trustee votes for my dear friend, Renee Miller for Homewood Library Trustee ❤️📚

Friends, I hope you’ll cast a vote for Renee, too. In the coming months and years, when education and public libraries are likely to face increasing funding challenges and partisan political attacks, I would LOVE to have Renee by our side on the Board. She’ll be a fierce champion for inclusion and a committed strategic partner in ensuring the Homewood Library District remains strong and our staff supported.

If y’all have any advice on the other offices on the ballot, I’d love to hear it! If you're up for it, drop a comment and let me know who you're voting for and why. I'm hoping to cast an early ballot next week, so I need to wrap up my research and make my final picsk ASAP.

Homewood Parent Music Association is running a fundraiser with Ted's Greenhouse Inc in Tinley Park now through June 15. If you take one of our paper fliers with you when you shop, PMA gets 20% of the sale! 🪴🪻🌳

When you realize you’re a stop on GoodSpeed Cycles - Homewood Bikes & Books Scavenger Hunt, but you “temporarily” took your little free library down last fall and still haven’t replaced it… what do you do?

You go dig said Little Free Library out from behind the shed, stuff it back in its ground anchor, and hope for the best 🫣

Please don’t judge y’all. It was a busy winter. And this was just the motivation I needed to finally order the replacement LFL I’ve been dreaming of 😍

So swing back in 2 to 3 weeks for our grand re-opening! 📚

We are back in business! 📚

We ended up only doing minor repairs — fresh stain, new interior paint, and tightening up the door brackets. Next season, we may have to do a more substantial overhaul with a new door altogether, but this should get us happily through the winter.

Swing by for a book and some sweet treats while they last 🍭

Hi! I am a Girl Scout Cadette and I am launching a book drive for my family’s Little Free Library, Zuzu's Petals.

I recently completed a Girl Scouts Journey that focused on media literacy, harmful stereotypes, why representation is important, and what we can do to help make things better.

I am looking for donations of diverse and inclusive books that feature all kinds of characters and affirming storylines, including different ethnicities, LGTBQIA+ communities, and disabled people. Our Little Free Library is popular with families in our neighborhood, so children’s books and early readers/easy chapter books would be especially appreciated!

We will have a donation box near the Little Free Library during the day (up the driveway, near our fence), where you can drop off gently used books, now through March 15.

We hope to collect enough books to help us keep a diverse collection rotating through our library all summer long, when people are out and about and kids are looking for things to read!
