Homewood City Schools Foundation

Homewood City Schools Foundation Grow the Foundation.
In 1994, the Homewood City Schools Foundation was established to provide a tangible expression of community appreciation and support for the Homewood school system. Today, the foundation continues to make significant commitments to our teachers and school system in an effort to support, encourage and honor excellence. The programs funded by the Foundation provide an excellent way to ensure that Homewood’s teachers have the skills and training they need to be the best they can be.

The Foundation is pleased to award Gretchen Kellen this year’s Jody Atchison Scholarship. “Miss A” coached and taught at HMS for 29 years. She also expanded opportunities for girls to compete by starting girls volleyball, softball, basketball, and track and field at HMS. Gretchen’s athletic career, scholastic performance, and character pay tribute to the memory of Mrs. Atchison. Congratulations Gretchen!!

Did you know? The Foundation awards student scholarships in addition to grants. The Caitlin Creed Character Award honors the memory of Caitlin Creed, a HHS cheerleader. Her parents Brad and Kathy Creed fund the scholarship, which is awarded to a senior who exemplifies good character and leadership among the cheerleading squad. Mrs. Snow's video is a bit different from the others but still shows how very special she is and what an impact she has made. First of all, the students who nominated her have now graduated, thanks to her support, so you won't see them here. Secondly, before we could interview Elaine about her career and her work with HHS students, Homewood Schools closed due to COVID-19. We hope to bring you more from Mrs. Snow at Homewood Grown in the fall.

Start spreading the news! We all love Homewood for many reasons! The outstanding school system is always top of the list. Throughout the next couple of months we plan to celebrate through neighborhood parties that will allow us to gather as neighbors and friends to honor the legacy started 25 years ago with the formation of the Homewood City Schools Foundation and kick off the Legacy for Learning initiative. Our goal is to have every family part of the celebrations. If you are looking for a good excuse to host a party or if you want to make sure you get on a party list in your area, please contact Carrie Engle at [email protected].
