“We accept this award not only on behalf of our family but also for our co-owners, numerous employees, other supporters and last, but certainly not least, posthumously for Mike” Wilson, pit master and founder of Saw's BBQ said the Wilson family, the Bronze Alabama Retailer of the Year in the Annual Sales $5 Million to $20 Million category.
The Retailer of the Year judges were impressed with Saw’s partnership with college athletes to promote the business online, as well as improvements to cost structure, adding online sales of its sauce and rub and partnering with a local university for meals for incoming students and events at local apartments.
Meredith Drennen, executive director of the Homewood Chamber of Commerce who nominated the Wilson family for the award, said, “Even after the passing of its founder, Saw’s continues to offer the best barbecue in Birmingham.” This spring, Southern Living magazine dubbed Saw’s barbecue as “the best in Alabama.” While maintaining quality food, “the family's commitment to our community and chamber is fantastic,” added Drennan.
“None of what we do would be possible without our customers, all of whom are the lifeblood of Saw’s,” said the Wilson family.

⭐️ The rising star award is given to a Homewood chamber member that has provided significant service to the Homewood Community and the chamber at large.
Misty Westover brought her homemade meals to-go concept to Homewood in 2021. She started by selling casseroles out of her home, within a couple of months people were lined up down her sidewalk to get a meal by Misty.
We were thrilled to have Meals By Misty] join us at the 2022 Taste of Homewood where they won first runner up of the People’s choice award.

🏆The business of the year award is given to a Homewood Chamber member who has provided significant service to the community and the chamber at large.
Shaia's was opened by Lebanese immigrant SG Shaia in 1922 before Homewood was incorporated. He built his home and the store in the site if it’s current location. Currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, Shaia’s brought pride to Homewood this year by receiving the Alabama Retail Associations’s Centennial Award.

Perryn Carroll, Executive Director of Jimmie Hale Mission joined us as this month's guest speaker. Jimmie Hale Mission is trying to reach a goal of 10,000 meals in the month of November.
Perryn informed us about ways to get involved with JHM including donations and volunteering. This time of year when the temperatures drop, JHM works to provide a warming station with showers and meals for those without shelter from the cold. These warming stations would not be possible without donations and volunteers.
Follow The Jimmie Hale Mission for updates on immediate supplies needed in order to make these warming stations possible. Whether you want to drop off snack bags, serve/share a meal, mentor, etc there are a number of ways to get involved.

Join Community Grief Support this Sunday at Homewood Central Park for the "Tree of Lights" memorial. Mayor Patrick McClusky will being doing a memorial dedication and there will be festive refreshments, Santa & Mrs. Claus, caroling and a bounce house.
We had the best time at Thanksgiving lunch today! The students were awesome hosts and sent us home with these super cool placemats! 🦃
