100 years of Homewood and 100 years of service. 🚒🎉

As the City of Homewood celebrates its centennial, we are honored to see a piece of our department’s history featured on the cover of the latest Homewood Magazine from Homewood Chamber of Commerce, alongside Fire Chief Brandon Broadhead and members of the Homewood Fire Department.

The historic American LaFrance fire truck pictured on the cover holds a special place in our city’s history. Built specifically for Homewood at the American LaFrance facility in New York and delivered in July 1927, it was the first fire truck purchased by the City of Homewood.

After years away from the city, the truck made its journey home thanks to the efforts of retired Battalion Chief and Fire Marshal Reggie Davis. With the help of former Fleet Director Gordon Jaynes and the St. Clair County Correctional Facility Auto Body Shop, the truck was beautifully restored and preserved for future generations.

While much has changed since 1927, the heart of the fire service remains the same.

Congratulations to Marcus Jones on graduating from the RTI Paramedic Program!

This is a major accomplishment that takes a tremendous amount of hard work, dedication, and time. Next up is the National Registry exam, and once completed, we’ll have another paramedic ready to serve the Homewood community.

Great job, Marcus! We’re proud of you and looking forward to seeing you take this next step! 🚒🚑

HFD crews are out working to clear the road. Our skid steer has been very helpful in cleaning this obstruction and getting emergency traffic back open.

Salter Road blocked, a large rotted tree fell & is blocking both lanes in the 1700 block. Find alternate routes if you are traveling in this area. Thankfully, no one was injured. Crews hope to have the road cleared within the next couple of hours.

Park at Buckingham Community Resource Fair

As our community continues to support the residents of Park at Buckingham, several local organizations have come together to host a FREE Community Resource Fair to help residents navigate their next steps.

📍 Outreach Hub at Trinity West Homewood

Residents will be able to connect directly with organizations that can help with:

🏠 Housing & Relocation Resources
🤝 Financial Assistance & Support
⚖️ Tenant Questions & Legal Services

Representatives will also be available to help residents complete intake forms and connect directly with available resources.

This situation has created a great deal of uncertainty for many families. Resident safety remains our number one priority, but we also recognize that our responsibility does not end with identifying unsafe conditions. We want to help connect our residents with the people and resources that can assist them through this transition.

Thank you to HICA, Trinity United Methodist Church, Homewood Community Church, United Way, Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham, Homewood City Schools, the City of Homewood, and everyone else who has stepped forward to help our neighbors.

Park at Buckingham residents can stop by anytime between 4:00 and 7:00 PM. Please bring proof of residency.

Homewood Fire Department is aware of the major fire currently burning in Birmingham, just outside the Homewood city limits.

The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke, and we understand that many Homewood residents may be seeing or smelling smoke in their neighborhoods. At this time, Birmingham Fire & Rescue has the fire under control.

Homewood Fire Department is monitoring the situation closely, and we have offered our assistance to Birmingham should additional resources be needed.

We will continue to monitor conditions that could impact Homewood and will share any important updates with our residents.
