It was a busy Saturday for B-Shift today. Someone hit the drafting tank pipe. So, instead of paying to get it fixed. They turned it into a day of training.

This week all crews will take part in HFD annual job task evaluation. There are 9 task that must be done twice. These task simulate what may be preformed in a fire.
Homewood Fire Department had the opportunity to train with other departments around the area today. This was part of Region G Urban Search & Rescue Teams. The focus today was preparation for the World Games coming to the area this summer. The exercises today were based around possible scenarios that could be faced.
HFD crews are getting several weather related calls already. Please do not be on the roads if at all possible. #alwx

As we spring forward with daylight savings time, tomorrow is a good time to swap the battery out in all of your smoke detectors. If any of your smoke detectors are older than 10 years old, it is recommended that you replace them with a new one.
This week 8 personnel will complete a 40 hour Fire Apparatus Operator Pumper class through the Alabama Fire College. This class consists of 6 models to include preventative maintenance, test and inspections, driving/operating, water supply, and sprinklers/standpipes operations. Today will be the last day in which they will take a practical exam and a written exam to complete the course.
All HFD Officers have spent the last 2 days in the annual officer development class. The week started with two day of classroom instruction on leadership. Today will finish up with stressful decision making on the fire scene.
A-Shift Ladder 4 had the opportunity to visit The Covenant Presbyterian Preschool this morning. 
This week firefighters are participating in Emergency Vehicle Driver Training (EVD) which is a 16 hour class. This consists of class time and driver training on an obstacle course.
This week all crews rotated through a ladder class at HFD training center. Many techniques were used including moving and raising ladders quicker and easier.
At approximately 2:34 today, HFD was dispatched for a vehicle fire on the fourth floor of the employee’s parking deck at Brookwood Hospital. The fire was quickly extinguished without any injuries.

Proud moment for the Homewood Fire Department. Today Firefighter Patton graduated from the Alabama Smokediver Program at the Alabama Fire College. Only approximately 0.1% of Alabama Firefighters are certified Smokedivers. The course is one of the more physically and mentally challenging classes a firefighter can attend. It pushes and test your skill as a firefighter. Please help us congratulate Firefighter Patton!
A-Shift had the opportunity to go to Homewood Central Park, during the Fit4MOM class. It is always good getting to share fire safety tips with the community.

B-Shift had the privilege of being invited to enjoy lunch with the residents of Skyline Village. The residents also presented the crews with a gift card for Christmas dinner. They had a flag pole that needed a new Lanyard that L-4 was able to replace and hoist a new flag for them. It was great getting to see the residents today and the happiness of the veterans as the flag was raised.
Thank you Milo’s for the donation of some great tasting tea for our annual Christmas Party tomorrow night.

Day 3 of live fire training. C-Shift had a beautiful day to train. The last three days provided HFD crews with realistic scenarios of possible calls and situations that they may face during their careers.
Day two of live fire training. B-shift crews had a great day to train.
This week all crews will participate in 8 hours of live fire training. This gives personnel realistic scenarios to be better prepared for actual fire events. Today, A-Shift rotated through the different training scenarios.

Homewood Fire Department welcomes back 6 new firefighters after graduation from The Bessemer Fire Department Recruit school. These firefighters have completed the 10 weeks of required basic training. They will return to Homewood to continue advanced training and serve our citizens for many years.
All shifts will be participating in air bag training the next three days. This will give all crews valuable training on using the airbags in extrication scenarios.
Homewood City Hall will be closed tomorrow in observance of Veterans Day. HFD would like to thank all the men and women that have served or currently serving in our military. We appreciate all of you.
Homewood personal had the opportunity to train with surrounding departments this week during the Alabama Fire College Wilderness Class.
This weekend we fall back for day lights saving time. This is a great time to change out the batteries in your smoke alarms. If your smoke alarm is older then ten years it is recommended to replace it with a new one.
