The Hominy Police Department is now accepting applications for a full-time Animal Control Officer.

This position offers an opportunity to serve the community by helping protect both residents and animals through enforcement of city ordinances, response to calls for service, and public interaction. The ideal applicant should be dependable, professional, capable of working independently, and comfortable interacting with the public in a variety of situations.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• High school diploma or GED required
• Valid driver’s license required
• Must be able to pass an extensive background investigation
• Must be able to pass a drug test
• Pay will be discussed during the interview process

Applications may be picked up and returned at City Hall, located at 219 W 1st Street, Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Application deadline is June 12, 2026.

Additional Information:
• Position may include occasional weekend shifts and after-hours callouts
• Applicant must be willing to work in various weather conditions and environments
• Job duties and responsibilities will be discussed during the interview process
• Position operates under the supervision of the Police Department
• Selected applicant must successfully complete the Animal Control Academy

Applicants should possess good communication skills, sound judgment, and the ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. This position may involve handling stray, injured, aggressive, or neglected animals, preparing reports, and working alongside other city departments and emergency personnel when needed.

From May 11th through May 31st, the Hominy Police Department will be participating in the national “Click It or Ticket” enforcement mobilization.

Officers will be conducting increased traffic enforcement with a focus on seat belt compliance and traffic safety throughout the community. Wearing your seat belt is one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect yourself and others while traveling.

Our goal is voluntary compliance and safer roadways for everyone. If you’re traveling through Hominy, make sure you and all passengers are properly restrained.

Hominy Police Department’s K9 Echo to get donation of body armor.

Hominy Police Department, OK - K9 Echo will receive a bullet and stab protective
vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in
K9s, Inc. K9 Echo’s vest was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. and will be
embroidered with the sentiment “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in
K9s, Inc.”. Delivery is expected within ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission
is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law
enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially
lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and
National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in
K9s, Inc. has provided over 6,397 vests valued at $6.9 million to K9s in all 50 states,
made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs at least 20 months old, actively employed, and
certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also
eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s
throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount,
while a single donation of $1,050 will sponsor one vest. Each vest has a value of
$1800.00, weighs an average of 4-5 lbs., and comes with a five-year warranty. For

⚠️ Speed Limit Reduction – City Park Area ⚠️

The speed limit in the area of the city park on North Regan Ave has been reduced and will be strictly enforced.

The speed reduction begins at Maple Street on N Regan Ave and continues to the T-intersection on N Regan Ave by the daycare at the stop sign.

As you approach the park, the speed limit drops from 25 mph to 15 mph, and then to 10 mph. These reductions are in place to protect pedestrians and children in the area.

This is a high-traffic location with kids frequently playing, families walking, and vehicles entering and exiting. Please slow down, stay alert, and be prepared to stop at any moment.

Officers will be monitoring this area closely and taking enforcement action when necessary.

Drive now, text later: Eyes forward and never drive distracted.

Safe driving requires focused attention. Adopting these phone-free driving habits is key to creating a safe driving environment for everyone on the road:
📵 Pull over and park in a safe location before using the phone to send or read a text message.
📵 Ask a passenger to be the "designated texter" and allow them to manage calls and messages during the drive.
📵 Avoid social media scrolling and any form of messaging while behind the wheel.
📵 Use "Do Not Disturb" mode to silence notifications.
📵 Drivers can put their phone in the trunk, glove box or back seat of the vehicle to break the habit of driving distracted.
