Do you have a medical need for electricity? ⚡🏥
If someone in your home depends on an electrically operated health aid, your account may qualify for Medina EC’s Critical Care Registry. Being on the registry helps ensure your account is flagged and notified ahead of planned outages and prioritized during restoration when possible. Participation does not guarantee uninterrupted service, so it’s important to also have an emergency plan and backup power options.

CONNECTING A GENERATOR We understand that sometimes members may need to use a portable generator to keep power to their house during an outage. If the proper steps aren't taken to ensure a generator is connected correctly, it could become hazardous and even deadly for our line crews and members. Mem...

We’re proud to recognize Bobby Contreras for 5 years of service with Medina EC! 🎉
As a Member Service Representative, Bobby plays an important role in supporting our members and helping deliver the service they count on every day.

In honor of Bobby’s milestone, Medina EC will make a $100 donation to the Natalia Veterans Memorial Library, the organization he selected in recognition of this achievement.

"At Medina Electric Cooperative, we know that rate changes impact your household budget, and the board does not make these decisions lightly. As a member-owned, not-for-profit utility, our goal isn’t to make a profit for investors, it’s to provide you with safe, reliable power at the lowest possible cost."

Keeping our members safe and your power reliable is always a top priority at Medina EC. One important way we do that is by maintaining a clear right‑of‑way—the 40‑foot area surrounding our power lines. Keeping this space clear helps prevent outages, reduces fire risk, and allows our crews to work safely. ⚡🌳

If you see a tree touching or growing too close to overhead power lines, please don’t try to trim it yourself. Instead, report it to Medina EC by calling 1‑866‑632‑3532, emailing [email protected], or logging into SmartHub and reporting an issue. Our team or a certified arborist will inspect the area. Trees that are dead, leaning, or pose an immediate risk are prioritized for safety

While we respect the landscape, Medina EC may remove trees that threaten our lines to protect your service and our crews.

Our Story: Your Story

Medina Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Medina EC) provides electric service to 18,000 members with more than 31,000 meters in a 10,750 square-mile region in 17 South Texas counties. Our story is truly your story: The cooperative began when people in South Texas joined to get power to rural areas where other power companies refused. They saw an area where they couldn’t make enough profit. The people of South Texas knew their area needed power, so they formed Medina EC and made it happen, without the big companies help. That happened in 1938. All these years later, the co-op is still here: Serving the people of South Texas with reliable, affordable electricity. The cooperative operates as a not-for-profit, and returns margins to members as capital credits.

Medina EC serves members through five different offices, located in Hondo, Dilley, Rio Grande City, Uvalde and Bruni, Texas. The co-op's general office is located in Hondo, Texas.
