A little rustic, a little cozy, and a whole lot of homemade goodness! 🤎

This week, we're taking you Behind the Business with 927 Provisions, a local bakery bringing delicious treats, warm hospitality, and a little something special to downtown Hondo!

🤎 If your business had a personality, what would it be?

Rustic, cozy, and welcoming! The owners describe it as walking into a friend's home for a warm, comforting dinner, a good glass of w**e or bourbon, and great conversation. Whether you're stopping in for your favorite treat or just coming by to chat, they're always happy to see you!

✨ What's something people might be surprised to learn?

927 Provisions is actually a bakery operating out of an art gallery and studio! Thanks to Susan and Ashleigh at The Art Space 830 on Avenue M, they've found a unique home where freshly baked goodies, local art, and community connections come together!

🥧 What should first time visitors try?

Two words: BOURBON PECAN! 🤎

Their famous bourbon pecan bars have been their #1 bestseller since day one, and for good reason!

But the local love doesn't stop there! You'll also find coffee from Puro Nitro and La Sobremesa, candles from Celyse Studio, and soaps from Heather's Soapery and The Cranky Goat.

From supporting other local businesses to creating a space that feels like home, 927 Provisions is a great example of what makes Hondo's small business community so special!

👀 Missing a familiar face around Hondo this week? Don’t worry, she’ll be back soon!

Our Business Development Specialist, Kaitlynn Jensen, is currently in Park City, Utah, attending the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute (OU EDI)! 🏔️📚

She’s spending five jam-packed days learning alongside economic development professionals from across the country, with courses covering credit analysis, real estate reuse, and certification exam preparation.

💡 So, what does that mean for Hondo?

Economic development is about more than attracting new businesses. It’s about making smart investments, supporting our local businesses, identifying opportunities for growth, and planning for our community’s future.

Continuing education gives our team the knowledge, resources, and connections to make informed decisions, explore new opportunities, and bring fresh ideas back to our community.

And while the mountain views aren’t too shabby, the real value is in the knowledge and ideas coming back home! 😉

While La Hacienda Boutique opened in 2023, Velvet's boutique ownership journey in downtown Hondo actually started long before that! She previously owned another boutique for many years, just under a different name!

The JEANS! From classic denim to fun prints, Velvet says their comfy jean selection is the perfect staple for every body style!

What does it take to build a successful business for 36 years and keep growing? 💗

We had the pleasure of welcoming the ladies behind Sisters Boutique in Floresville to Hondo for our October Lunch B.I.T.E.S. workshop, Beyond Boutiques!

With Floresville and Hondo sharing many similarities in population, demographics, and economic characteristics, this was a great opportunity to learn from a business that has continued to grow, adapt, and expand in a community much like our own.

From sharing their experiences to answering questions from our attendees, the ladies of Sisters Boutique brought valuable insight, great conversation, and plenty of inspiration to the room!

A HUGE thank you to Sisters Boutique for making the trip to Hondo and sharing 36 years of business experience with our community! 👏💗
