One of four Fire Companies that comprises the Honesdale Fire Department.

Alert #2 is located on the East side of the Borough of Honesdale (Traceyville) and is 100% volunteer.

A "Thank You" goes out to Bob & Tim @ Marshall Machinery, Honesdale for graciously letting the HFD loan us a UTV during the 2026 Wayne County Fair to transport personnel & fire equipment in case of an emergency. It is much appreciated!

The HFD is on standby at the Wayne County Fair for 2026, along with protecting our 1st due response area. Thanks for all the volunteers that make this happen every year.

This past weekend, we welcomed seven firefighters/visitors from the Retiro Fire Department, Chile, South America who came to Honesdale, Pa., and our #2 firehall, after selling them our ’94 Sutphen Ladder last year. For some, it was their first time in the U.S. We gave them a tour of our current ladder truck, showed them the HFD’s Silby Steamer at the #3 station, reviewed a recent call we responded to, and hosted a BBQ at our station. Many photos were taken, and great memories made. Thanks to Marcelo Araya Arcos and his friends for making the visit possible. Stay safe Chile FF's, from your U.S.A. friends in Honesdale,Pa.
They’re now off to NY to see Rescue #1 and other sights before heading back to South America.

Today, we join the EMS community in remembering Randolph Mantooth, whose portrayal of firefighter/paramedic John Gage on the television series Emergency! inspired generations to answer the call to serve.
For many EMS professionals, Emergency! was more than a television show—it was the spark that ignited a lifelong passion for helping others. Pictured here is #2 Captain Kipp Welsh, Paramedic Kraig Welsh with Randolph Mantooth during a meet-and-greet @ Regional Hospital,Scranton several years ago.
Randolph’s advocacy for EMS and his support of first responders extended far beyond the screen. His legacy lives on through the countless paramedics, EMTs, firefighters, and emergency medical professionals he inspired throughout the years.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Randolph Mantooth’s family, friends, and the entire EMS community. Thank you, Randolph, for inspiring generations to serve with courage, compassion, and dedication.
Rest easy, Johnny. Squad 51, out of service.

The shift from horse-drawn or hand-pulled carts to motorized vehicles marked a huge milestone for fire departments across the nation. The 1920 (?) REO Speedwagon (named after Ransom Eli Olds) became especially popular in the early to mid-20th century, with departments retrofitting these dependable trucks to haul chemical tanks, ladders, and hoses. For the Alert #2 Fire Company, these early motorized engines were a major step forward in speed and carrying capacity, long before the arrival of today’s massive ladder trucks. Our current station at 222 Willow Ave. in Honesdale, with the Yuba building behind it, features a newer truck room added in 2002 and houses our present ladder truck, a 2018 Sutphen SP70, with a hydraulic 70' platform along with 110' of ground ladders. The fire company has acquired three trucks since the REO Wagon Ladder Truck. Our annual fund drive will soon arrive in mailboxes with the message, "Please help us, as we always help you"!

More updates from our " #2 Open House": A sincere thank you to all the local businesses that contributed gift certificates or raffle baskets. We also extend our appreciation to the Office of Senator Dave McCormick and Mr. Tyler McAlpine & his intern for attending and taking a tour of our ladder.
