The HBBPD is proud to announce that it has recently implemented the Axon AI Assistant for its officers via their Body Worn Cameras. In late 2025, the department, working with the Borough Council, considered replacing its aging vehicle and body cameras, ultimately choosing the Axon Inc. Fleet 3 and Body4 camera systems. The cameras were installed and fielded in March 2026, and last month, another feature was enabled, the Axon AI Assistant.

AI Assistant gives officers the ability to use the Body Camera and the AI integration as a language translator while encountering the public throughout our duties, where English may not be their primary language. This allows the interaction to flow naturally between the parties without having to pull out a cell phone, use a translation feature, or type into an app. This also makes the interaction safer for officers and the public, so attention isn't taken away by looking at a phone.

The AI Assistant can automatically recognize up to 50 languages; officers can also tell the camera which language to translate to. AI Assistant also allows officers to access general information (think ChatGPT) through their body cameras in the field. For example, if dealing with an auto accident that may be carrying hazardous materials. The officer can simply "ask" the camera what the Hazmat Placard means, and the safety precautions found in the Emergency Responders Guide are given to them in real time.

Officers have already used the feature several times while interacting with the public, and the department wants to thank Honey Brook Borough Council for their support in upgrading our camera systems and the capabilities they provide.

The Chester County Commissioners proclaimed their support for today, alongside several local law enforcement officials.

This proclamation comes shortly after our community was shaken on March 8, 2026 when Corporal Timothy J. O’Connor Jr. of the PA State Police lost his life in the line of duty; a sacrifice that reflects the selfless work done by police officers throughout the county day in and day out.

Accepting the proclamation were officers from:
West Caln Township Police Department
West Sadsbury Township Police
West Brandywine Police Department
City of Coatesville Police Department
Honey Brook Borough Police Department
Parkesburg Borough Police Department
East Brandywine Township Police Department
Valley Township Police Department

This year hits harder and closer to us than previous years. We miss you everyday CPL O’Connor.

Each May, our nation comes together to honor the courage, sacrifice and dedication of law enforcement officers. Originally established by presidential proclamation President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th and a week of observances recognizing officers who given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who continue to serve and protect our communities with dedication and courage.

Events are centered in Washington, D.C. and include the Candlelight Vigil hosted by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S) National Survivors Conference and the cornerstone of the week, the Fraternal Order of Police National Peace Officers Memorial Service on May 15th at the West Front of the United States Capitol.

National Police week is both a time of solemn remembrance and a celebration of the men and women who serve with integrity and bravery every day. It reminds us that behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice and family.
