Last week, I attended the grand opening of the new Behavioral Health Crisis Center (BHCC) at the Iwilei Resource Center. The center provides critical care for stabilization that can happen here instead of in our emergency rooms or jails for those seeking support for mental health.

So excited to help some of our dedicated school librarians in their work to spread the word that librarianship includes checking out books to keiki, but also so much more! They joined us for Education Week to hand out information on HCR188/HR168 (URGING THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION TO ENSURE THAT SCHOOL LIBRARIES AND SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA CENTERS ARE STAFFED WITH LICENSED SCHOOL LIBRARIANS AND LICENSED SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALISTS).

Their efforts were well-rewarded when the resolution was heard and passed out of the House Committee on Education. Mahalo for all that you do in our communities! 📚📚📚

Last week, we marked the official start to the 2024 Legislative Session. Mahalo to the constituents, community groups and healthcare organizations who came by to spread well wishes on Opening Day. It meant so much to be able to celebrate my second year in office with all of you and I am excited to work with you in the year ahead!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and thank you for everything that you do!

And an extra special shout-out to my mom for helping me get through my first session as an elected official. If you came by the office, you were probably greeted by her (or came by to talk story with her instead of me 😂). She brought such good energy to our team as we navigated the stressful times of the year. Thanks, mom!
