🚧 OʻAHU ROAD UPDATE – WHAT VISITORS NEED TO KNOW (MARCH 22)

If you’re heading to Oʻahu soon, here’s a quick, no-nonsense update on road conditions after the recent Kona storms 👇

🌊 North Shore (Kamehameha Hwy – Waimea Bay area)

One lane is closed 24/7 for the next 3 weeks
No more overnight full closures (that’s good news)
Expect delays between Haleʻiwa and Waimea

👉 Bottom line:
If you're planning a North Shore day, go early or go later in the afternoon. Midday traffic will stack up.

🌧 Windward Side (Kalanianaʻole Hwy – Kailua side)

Only partial reopening right now
Left lanes open, right lanes still closed due to landslide risk
More updates coming this week

👉 Bottom line:
You can get through, but build in extra drive time—especially if you're heading to Kailua or the east side.

⚡ Likelike Highway (Town ↔ Windward)

Lane closures for utility work
8:30 AM – 6:30 PM

👉 Bottom line:
This is a key route—expect slowdowns during the day.

H-1 issues near downtown are fixed and open
Some local roads (like Kāneʻohe + West Side areas) still have limited access or detours

💡 My Advice (This is what I tell my clients):

Don’t try to “do it all” in one day
Pick one region per day (North Shore OR Windward, not both)
Leave earlier than you think you need to
Always have a backup plan

New! For Tax year 2026, Veteran home borrowers, getting a VA guaranteed home loan, can now deduct the VA funding fee! Some fees can be over $10K+ at closing so that's great news for those buying a home this year. However, in past years, the VA borrower got the entire amount refunded to them by the VA but months later. So I'm not sure if this is and equal sum game. What do you think?

Starting this year, Veterans and service members can deduct VA funding fees on their taxes when purchasing a home using the VA-guaranteed home loan.
