Aloha!
DAGS is co-hosting a blood drive with DLNR on June 25. It’ll be in a Bloodmobile between Kalanimoku and City Hall. There will be snacks. 😊 BBH Dereck Kaneshiro explains what is involved with giving blood!

It’s a public event so your family and friends are welcome to join!

Please sign up to reserve a spot – the QR code is on the attached flyer. If you don’t want to use a QR code, you can still sign up by either calling (808) 848-4770, or going online. Please block an hour for donating blood.

The Call Center team is available Monday-Thursday from 8:00am-8:00pm, Friday & Saturday from 8:00am-4:30pm and closed on Sunday.
If you are going online, the link to our DAGS blood drive is https://bbhdonor.org/index.cfm?group=op&expand=33309&zc=96813

They can take a drop-ins but prefer to plan ahead with staffing and resources. You may have to wait if you are a walk in.
Here is information about how to prepare, what to expect, and who qualifies to donate: https://www.bbh.org/become-donor/

Reminders for Blood Donors (so donors have the best possible experience):
Drink eight to 10 glasses of water within the 24 hours prior to your appointment, eat a healthy, hearty meal, and get adequate rest. Include iron-rich foods in your diet.
Bring a photo ID (eg. driver’s license, state ID, military ID). If you’re taking any medications, it is helpful to bring in a list of the correct names and amounts, or the actual bottles themselves. Be sure to have your international travel dates on hand as well.
If you have tested positive or have been in close contact with a COVID-19 carrier, do not donate blood for 10 days after either your test or complete resolution of symptoms.
Look forward to seeing you there and thank you for saving a life! Mahalo for creating this awesome video🙏🏼🙂

City and state leaders held an event today to donate the results of a governmental food bank donation drive. Every dollar or canned good given to the Hawai’i Foodbank becomes more than just food. It becomes relief for a parent, wondering how they’ll feed their children. It becomes hope for seniors on a fixed income. It becomes comfort for families facing difficult times. If you support the , thank you.

DAGS’ West Hawai’i District Office proudly participated in the Holualoa Elementary College and Career Fair on May 15.

The school told us the crew—Kimo, Troy, Mark, Josh, Glenn, and Jantzan— went above and beyond, bringing the trades to life with interactive, hands-on activities in carpentry, painting, and electrical work. What wonderful feedback; thank you!

We value and support our community and look forward to our ongoing partnership with Holualoa Elementary!

DAGS was thrilled to be interviewed by for a piece to air on The Conversation (hosted by Catherine Cruz this week about cemeteries and how DAGS is doing work right now to better maintain and bring dignity to the resting places of about 6,000 people. Comptroller Keith Regan is here with his Central Services Division Administrator Jimmy Kurata. Thanks !

While there we had the pleasure of meeting Meredith Hartley, the president and CEO of Hawaii Public Radio, and Russell Subiono, the Director of Programming and Content Development and host of podcasts This is Our Hawaii and Feathers and Fire. What an awesome crew!

DAGS held a fundraiser for ! It’s our contribution to the 2026 State Employees’ Food Drive. The Hawai‘i Foodbank plays a vital role in supporting members of our community—including keiki, kūpuna, and families—who are facing food insecurity. Their work ensures that nourishment, hope, courage, and aloha reach those who need it most across our islands. 🍽️

SFCA Art in Public Places Collection artworks have recently been installed at the Hawai'i State Public Charter School Commission. Ed Noh, Executive Director, reached out to thank our exhibits team afterwards. Ed shared that "The real treasure is featuring the art piece from Haunani Bush, a former commission staff member who sadly passed away. I never met her, but those that worked with her have been pausing at the piece, remembering and sharing emotional stories about her as a person, artist, and friend. I still can't believe that out of all the stacks of art cards, her piece found its way to us!"

Artwork: "Quiet Contemplation" by Haunani K.M. Bush, 2005. Watercolor, acrylic, and gesso painting. Art in Public Places Collection of the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. According to the artist, "Quiet Contemplation" represents a winter vista evoking a cold, desolate, windswept landscape that is dominated with the dormant seeds of life and nature's promise and commitment to the continued cycle of rebirth."

Explore the collection online: sfca.hawaii.gov/app-art. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is Hawaiʻi's state government arts agency, administratively attached to Hawaii Department of Accounting and General Services. SFCA programs include Capitol Modern, the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum.
