Building partnerships before disaster strikes is essential to ensuring a coordinated and effective response across the Indo-Pacific.

During Exercise Marara 26 in French Polynesia, medical professionals from multiple partner nations came together to strengthen humanitarian assistance and disaster response capabilities through a multinational medical symposium focused on interoperability, shared lessons learned, and collaborative planning.

As the lead Army element supporting the exercise, the 322nd Civil Affairs Brigade, a direct reporting unit of the 9th Mission Support Command, played a key role in advancing multinational coordination and fostering relationships with allies and partners across the region. Discussions focused on improving the ability of partner forces to operate together during complex disaster scenarios, ensuring a more unified response to future crises.

Exercises like Marara 26 reinforce the 9th MSC’s commitment to building readiness, strengthening partnerships, and enhancing the collective capability of allied and partner nations to respond when disaster strikes.

In the wake of Super Typhoon Sinlaku, Soldiers from the 9th Mission Support Command stood alongside the people of Saipan during one of the island’s most challenging recovery efforts.

Over several months, Soldiers provided critical disaster relief, delivering emergency assistance and constructing 50 temporary roofs for families whose homes were damaged by the storm. Their efforts helped restore safety, stability and hope to communities working to rebuild.

Through dedication, teamwork and service, the 9th MSC played a vital role in supporting Saipan’s recovery and strengthening the partnership between the U.S. Army Reserve and the local community.

During May Battle Assembly the U.S. Army Pacific Support Unit–Japan (DET-J) enhanced readiness through strategic planning with U.S. Army Japan and an APS-4 site assessment at Sagami General Depot, strengthening its ability to support forward-deployed operations.

DET-J also conducted a Holistic Health and Fitness (H2F) staff ride at Mount Oyama, combining the historic Oyama-mairi tradition with physical endurance, resilience-building and leader development in preparation for future operations, including the upcoming Mount Fuji ascent.

The detachment further improved combat readiness through Building Strong and Ready Teams (BSRT) training, applying the “Speed of Trust” framework to strengthen cohesion, accelerate decision-making and increase effectiveness in demanding operational environments.

The 9th Mission Support Command is proud to support response efforts following the effects of Typhoon Sinlaku in Guam and Saipan. Soldiers from the 303rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and across the command worked alongside local partners to help affected communities recover and restore essential services.

As Col. Mary Durham, commander of the 303rd Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, noted, this mission was especially meaningful because many of the Soldiers who answered the call live in these communities, serve in these communities, and have a personal connection to the people impacted by the storm.

The response demonstrated the dedication, readiness, and commitment of Army Reserve Soldiers who stand ready to support their neighbors when they are needed most.
