At the heart of public safety is someone brave enough to do the right thing, even in the face of danger. Because in our community, everyone looks out for one another, and some of our neighbors make that their life’s work.

This morning, the City Council was honored to join the Honolulu Fire Department for a Commendation Ceremony recognizing those who went above and beyond in service to our community.

Mahalo to all the honorees for leading with service and aloha! Your example inspires us all, and Honolulu is a better place because of you.

At its core, leadership with aloha is simple: listen to your community, then follow through. Today’s session was a reflection of that intentionality, balancing the work of keeping city services strong with meaningful quality of life improvements to everyday life in Honolulu.

We passed the City’s Operating Budget (Bill 22) as well as the Capital Budget (Bill 23) for FY27. The Operating budget streamlines the core services residents count on daily, while the Capital budget puts those dollars to work as lasting improvements across the city. The budget now goes to the Mayor for further action.

Beyond the budget, we also passed Bill 12 (public access to sewer and drainage information), Bill 34 (updated flood standards for homeowners), and Bill 70 (dog parks counting toward community park requirements); because kamaʻāina deserve a city that works and a government that is responsive.
