KATUSAS: ALLIES, CO-WORKERS, FRIENDS
Join us and our Far East District in Korea celebrating Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA) day!
KATUSA Friendship Week: Meet FED's KATUSA Soldiers 🤝
In celebration of KATUSA (Korean Augmentation to the United States Army) Friendship Week, we're recognizing four KATUSA Soldiers serving with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District. Together, they represent the teamwork, cultural exchange, and partnership that strengthen the ROK-U.S. Alliance every day.
CPL Choi, Hyun Seong (far left) is an Electronic Engineering student from Sogang University. One of his favorite memories at FED was participating in the district's Christmas potluck. "To me, the alliance means teamwork," he said. "I experience it daily when Korean and American engineers work side-by-side to complete our missions."
SGT Choi, Ji Hun (second from left) spent much of his childhood and education in India before attending Yonsei University. He says the most rewarding part of being a KATUSA is the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and gain new perspectives from around the world.
CPL Lee, Man Hi (second from right) was born and raised in Brazil and studied computer science before joining the Army. Through his service, he continues to develop his technical skills while improving both his Korean and English. He encourages future applicants to embrace the challenge and take advantage of the unique opportunities the KATUSA program provides.
PFC Jung, Hwi Jun (far right), the newest member of the team, is studying Landscape Architecture. He says serving as a KATUSA has helped him grow his English and interpersonal skills while adapting to a new environment with the support of his teammates.
Although their backgrounds and future goals differ, all four Soldiers highlighted the value of communication, teamwork, and personal growth. Their experiences reflect the enduring friendship and cooperation that define the U.S.-ROK alliance.
