HAPPY BIRTHDAY USACE

Today we celebrate our 251st anniversary!

George Washington appointed the first engineer officers of the Army on June 16, 1775, during the American Revolution, and engineers have served in combat in all subsequent American wars. The Army established the Corps of Engineers as a separate, permanent branch on March 16, 1802, and gave the engineers responsibility for founding and operating the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Since then the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has responded to changing defense requirements and played an integral part in the development of the country.

Happy birthday to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Army Engineer Regiment, and thank you to all who have contributed to our efforts for the Nation.

KATUSAS: ALLIES, CO-WORKERS, FRIENDS

Join us and our Far East District in Korea celebrating Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA) day!

KATUSA Friendship Week: Meet FED's KATUSA Soldiers 🤝

In celebration of KATUSA (Korean Augmentation to the United States Army) Friendship Week, we're recognizing four KATUSA Soldiers serving with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers – Far East District. Together, they represent the teamwork, cultural exchange, and partnership that strengthen the ROK-U.S. Alliance every day.

CPL Choi, Hyun Seong (far left) is an Electronic Engineering student from Sogang University. One of his favorite memories at FED was participating in the district's Christmas potluck. "To me, the alliance means teamwork," he said. "I experience it daily when Korean and American engineers work side-by-side to complete our missions."

SGT Choi, Ji Hun (second from left) spent much of his childhood and education in India before attending Yonsei University. He says the most rewarding part of being a KATUSA is the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and gain new perspectives from around the world.

CPL Lee, Man Hi (second from right) was born and raised in Brazil and studied computer science before joining the Army. Through his service, he continues to develop his technical skills while improving both his Korean and English. He encourages future applicants to embrace the challenge and take advantage of the unique opportunities the KATUSA program provides.

PFC Jung, Hwi Jun (far right), the newest member of the team, is studying Landscape Architecture. He says serving as a KATUSA has helped him grow his English and interpersonal skills while adapting to a new environment with the support of his teammates.

Although their backgrounds and future goals differ, all four Soldiers highlighted the value of communication, teamwork, and personal growth. Their experiences reflect the enduring friendship and cooperation that define the U.S.-ROK alliance.

DELIVERING QUALITY ENGINEERING TO THE PACIFIC

Mr. Jose Sanchez, director of Engineering & Business, out and about ensuring US Army Corps of Engineers Far East District is delivering quality military programs for the Soldiers and families at Camp Humpreys.

Wrapping up a week of collaboration, conversation, and continuous improvement. 👷‍♂️

During his visit to USACE Far East District, Mr. Sanchez, Pacific Ocean Division, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Director of Engineering and Business, engaged with teams across the district as part of the Design and Construction Evaluation, taking a closer look at our projects, processes, and the people behind them.

From concrete placement to pile foundations, each discussion reinforced a simple truth: the details matter. It’s those technical conversations and shared expertise that help us refine how we build and deliver for the mission.

These visits aren’t just about evaluation, they’re about learning from each other, strengthening our standards, and ensuring we continue to deliver quality infrastructure for our service members and their families.

Stronger together. Better every project.
