HULŌ!

Laka me Lono’s Graduate Research Assistant is officially graduating! She writes:

I wanted to officially invite everyone to my Hawaiian Studies Masterʻs Thesis Public Defense on Tuesday April 4th at 5pm at Hālau o Haumea at Kamakakūokalani Center for Hawaiian Studies at UH Mānoa.

My thesis is entitled "On The Standard of Being ʻHawaiian Enoughʻ: Native Hawaiian Lateral Violence and Contemporary Hawaiian Language Acquisition" and looks at how the notion and standard of being ‘Hawaiian enough’ within our community negatively impacts Kānaka, how we view our personal ʻŌiwi identities, other Hawaiians, and the act of speaking and learning Hawaiian today. The goal of my research is to make Hawaiian language acquisition more equitable and accessible for all Kānaka. Hope to see you there!
