Association of Hawai'i Archivists

Association of Hawai'i Archivists AHA encourages the preservation of and access to a wide variety of historical materials... we invite your discussion here!

The Association of Hawai‘i Archivists (AHA) was established to promote cooperation and exchange of information among individuals interested in the preservation and use of archival and manuscript materials in the State of Hawai‘i and adjoining areas; to disseminate information on research materials and archival methodology; and to provide a forum for the discussion of matters of common concern. The AHA FaceBook page exists to connect with professionals outside of our existing reach, to share news related to the archives profession and Hawai'i archival repositories, and to create opportunities to engage researchers, "citizen archivists", and community members. This space was created to support discussions on matters of common concern, contribute photos, and post archive-related events. AHA encourages users to practice professional courtesy and tact. Posts that are unrelated to the archives, library, and museum profession are prohibited. AHA reserves the right to delete posts that contain: • Unsolicited commercial advertisements for goods or services (spam) • Personal attacks of any kind • Political postings unrelated to archival issues • Copyrighted material

Mission: The Association’s mission is to support and provide continuing education for the state’s archivists and to encourage the preservation of and access to a wide variety of historical materials in archival repositories of Hawai‘i.

DIGITIZING RULES!

Congrats to the Honolulu Museum of Art on their recent digitization project! Nearly a century of their new bulletins and calendars from 1928 to 2017 at your fingertips.

https://evols.library.manoa.hawaii.edu/handle/10524/57641

This publication presents research on collections, interviews with artists, and articles about exhibitions and programs. Its consistent documentation of these activities reveals how Hawai‘i’s artists and arts communities—as well as the institution itself—have responded to changing social, cultural, economic, ecological, and political contexts over the span of nearly 90 years.

This project was supported in part by a grant from the Hawai'i Council for the Humanities. Mahalo to HCH and our partners at UH for helping us to make this collection more widely accessible!

Since its opening in 1927, the Honolulu Museum of Art (formerly the Honolulu Academy of Arts) has exhibited and interpreted the works of Hawai‘i’s most significant artists, and has enjoyed sustained relationships with its most active arts organizations.

Happy new year!
Mele Kalikimaka and Merry Christmas!
Good afternoon, I am working on an article for the Hawaii Tribune-Herald in Hilo. Anyone know where I might find early (1904-1953) records of the Shippers' Wharf Trust (Shippers' Wharf Fund, Shippers' Wharf Committee Trust)? Please call 930-7353. We've contacted the governor's office, Hawaii County, Historical Society, museums, state archives. This might be a log book with hand-written entries. It's hard to imagine it would have been discarded. But it's so long since use that it's unlikely very many people know where it is. Mahalo nui for allowing this message (administrator, please feel free to delete). Jeff
