OET is honored to have the privilege of supporting U.S. Embassy - Honiara, Solomon Islands and multiple dignitaries from the Government of Solomon Islands in commemorating the 81st anniversary of the landing of the Marines on Guadalcanal on August 7, 1942.

“The conflict brought peace and democracy to millions of people around the world, including Solomon Islands and built the international institutions that continue to work to prevent conflict and develop nations.” Said U.S. Embassy Honiara Charge’d Affaires Russell Comeau.

In attendance at the U.S. Monument Skyline Drive was Solomon Islands Governor General David Vunagi, Prime Minister Manaseh Sogavare and Opposition Leader Matthew Wale among other dignitaries from the Diplomatic Corps. 🇸🇧🇺🇸

We are happy to see the signing of this new agreement which will support security, rule of law, and territorial sovereignty for Papua New Guinea (PNG). US Coast Guard patrolling PNG’s waters will have authority to board foreign vessels suspected of illegal activity in its exclusive economic zone.

The PNG agreement is the first with the ship boarding provision for a nation with which the US does not have full defence responsibility.

Highlighting our team in Papua New Guinea: we are so proud of you and what you’re accomplishing!

It was an honor to host U.S. Army Specialist Louie Kaman today at the American Corner, talking to PNG high school students about his experiences in the U.S. military. He's from PNG, and after moving to the United States and becoming a U.S. citizen, he joined the U.S. Army in 2017. He's back in PNG now as a cultural liaison, helping forge a stronger partnership with the PNGDF.
