Mālama ʻĀina in action 🌱

Mahalo to the community members, partners, and volunteers who joined us today at Hāwea Heiau and Keawāwa Wetland for a day of restoration and stewardship. Together, we removed invasive species, planted native vegetation, and helped care for a wahi pana with deep cultural and environmental significance.

This effort was made possible through partnerships with Livable Hawaii Kai Hui, , and City agencies including the Honolulu Office of Climate Change, Sustainability and Resiliency (CCSR), Honolulu Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), .honolulu(OER), and the Department of the Corporation Counsel (COR).

Through the Clean Water and Natural Lands Program, we’re not just preserving land—we’re strengthening the connection between people, place, and ʻike kūpuna.

The City and County of Honolulu has acquired 175 N. Pauahi Street as part of its ongoing effort to expand housing opportunities in Honolulu’s urban core.

The property, located at the corner of Pauahi and River near Chinatown, is currently significantly underutilized—with only 4 of its 42 residential units occupied. The City’s plan is to stabilize the site, restore existing units, and bring them back into service as quickly as possible.

Longer term, this acquisition also supports broader efforts to revitalize the area and create more housing opportunities close to jobs, transit, and essential services.
