On their final day in Japan, Keʻelikolani students participated in an aizome (Japanese indigo dyeing) workshop, creating unique keepsakes to remember their time in Shirahama. Students also enjoyed walking along an acupuncture stone path, taking in the scenery of Shirahama, and sharing a final chicken karaage lunch together.

Mayor Oe and members of town hall and the Department of Education came to the train station to give students a heartfelt send-off before they boarded the JR train bound for Kansai Airport. Our deepest appreciation and gratitude to Mayor Oe, Mr. Misu, Ms. Maki, and the people of Shirahama for their hospitality, generosity, and kindness throughout our time in Japan.

The friendships, experiences, and memories made during this exchange will last a lifetime, and we hope to return again soon. Mahalo and arigato gozaimasu, Shirahama! 🇯🇵🌺❤️

For their final school visit in Shirahama, Keʻelikolani students spent the day at Shirahama Junior High School. They were welcomed with a special assembly before joining their Japanese peers in science, PE, and art classes.

Students enjoyed a traditional Japanese school lunch, assisted with daily cleaning time, and gained firsthand experience of school life in Japan. They also participated in club activities which included volleyball, art, and baseball.

For their final evening in Shirahama, students enjoyed an okonomiyaki dinner and spent time reconnecting with Shirahama students who visited Keʻelikolani earlier this school year. Seeing these friendships continue to grow long after the visits end is a powerful reminder that the relationships formed through these experiences can last a lifetime.

Students spent the day at Hiki Junior High School. They participated in math, social studies, and art classes, giving them a firsthand look at what school life is like in Japan. They also enjoyed experiencing a traditional Japanese school lunch alongside their host students.

In the afternoon, students took part in a fun cultural exchange program filled with games, laughter, and opportunities to connect with new and familiar friends. This visit was especially meaningful because Keʻelikolani students regularly meet with Hiki students virtually throughout the school year. Seeing one another in person made the experience even more special, and students were excited to finally connect face-to-face.

Thank you to the faculty and staff at Hiki Junior High School for planning such thoughtful and engaging activities that allowed our students to learn, play, and build lasting friendships together. We are grateful for your warm hospitality and look forward to continuing this wonderful partnership! 🇯🇵🤝🌺
