Hawai'i Peace and Justice

Hawai'i Peace and Justice Hawai'i Peace and Justice The strength of our movement ecosystem is rooted in our support of each other's struggles.

Develop Organizers

Through our Koa Futures Initiative HPJ focuses on developing youth leaders, organizers and activists who are committed to developing a pro-peace, demilitarization, anti-imperialist movement in Hawaiʻi and Oceania. Building on the successes and lessons of previous movements and looking toward a generative and not destructive future, we work in partnership with Aloha ʻĀina organi

zations to design trainings and educational programs to enhance the creativity, critical thinking and mass organizing of our communities to shift toward genuine security that prioritizes climate justice over war that restores our collective lands and waters. Build International Solidarity

We strive to be a "kīpuka", a center that provides support and connectivity for social movements, grassroots organizers and activists working toward peace and social justice, as we develop relationships to build collective power toward liberation. Aloha ʻĀina

We will create a more peaceful, just and sustainable Hawaiʻi and world as we work to demilitarize Hawaiʻi and address the historical injustices caused by the military takeover of Hawaiʻi . We oppose military occupation and expansion in Hawaiʻi and globally. We will no longer allow a world of endless wars and resource extraction. We stand with oppressed peoples who suffer at the hands of a war industry and instead seek to create generative economies that recognize that we are the true stewards of our lands and waters.

Mahalo nui to the kaiaulu for showing up and standing with ʻāina today! From 7 to 70 years old, the halls of the Kalanimoku building and BLNR Boardroom we’re filled with Kanaka Maoli and Hawaiʻi residents who demanded the U.S. Army’s Final EIS be rejected! The report failed to answer what the true environmental impacts to Hawaiʻiʻs entire ecosystem would be if the army would be allowed to continue occupying and desecrating the “state leased” lands.

Our opio listened and learned from our Kupuna and showed the entire lahui the Youth Demilitarization Movement in Hawaiʻi is growing stronger, standing on the shoulders of those who came before us and understanding our kuleana to continue this fight for Truth, Peace & Justice ❤️‍🔥

Eh, Ala is back to invite da kaiaulu to HPJ’s Banner Build ‼️

Mon 5/5, Tues 5/6 & Wed 5/7 2:00 to 6:00 pm

Come down to collectively amplify our voices and demands! Register for the address and bring your friends and family! The Banner will be revealed before the 5/9 Friday 9:00 am BLNR Meeting that we’ll be attending directly after.

We also want to mahalo the folks who have reached out and brought attention to the post featuring our Board Member Ann Wright! She shared on the ground updates from Malta as one of the organizers of The Freedom Flotilla Coalition. Their vessel, The Conscious, was working to bring aid to Gaza and attacked by a Drone Strike in international waters. The FFC suspects Isreal is the culprit. Thankfully no deaths or serious injuries have been reported and Ann and the other civilian organizers are safe.

At HPJ, we recognize the direct link between military training grounds in Hawaiʻi—like the 132,000-acre Pōhakuloa Training Area—and the global death and destruction caused by military force. We know that building and leveraging our collective power is how we will hold them accountable, and ultimately how we will win!

On Day 2 of Youth Liberation Camp we were graced with meles from 'Anakala Liko and a workshop lead by 'Anakē Laulani. We are so fortunate to have been able to absorb their mana'o and foster inter-generational connections between our 'ōpio and kūpuna.

Mahalo ē 'Anakē Laulani and 'Anakala Liko for further enriching our camp!

Day 3 of Youth Liberation Camp was closed by a vital workshop from Jeena Marie on somatics. Our participants were guided on becoming more aware of how the body feels, how it moves, and how thoughts influence its physical state. Somatics is a crucial tool in healing activism burnout.

Mahalo e Jeena Marie for a healing lesson in breathe work!

This year’s Youth Liberation Camp was enriched with the mana'o from our guest facilitators. On our last day of camp we jumped at the opportunity to do some aloha 'āina work at Ka'ala Farms and learn more about the Ahupua'a o Waianae.

Mahalo ē Ka'ala Farms 'Ohana for co-facilitating another liberating camp!

Aaron’s act of courage shook the world a year ago, but it’s sad to see how quickly people move on. I haven’t. I still think about Aaron every day.” – Youth in Attendance

Today, the HPJ team gathered to honor Aaron Bushnell, who, one year ago, sacrificed himself to awaken the world to Palestinian suffering. On February 25, 2024, he set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C., bravely protesting what he saw as genocide. His act remains a powerful call for justice.

Aaron, mahalo e for your bravery. It will never be forgotten and we carry your message forward.

Mahalo nui to Ann Wright, a current board member of Hawaii Peace and Justice, for organising this gathering today.
