Building Resilience Through Training

Last week we hosted a delegation from West Papua as part of our “Building Resilience Through Training” disaster management project. The project, under the direction of Professors Karl Kim and Dolores Foley funded by USAID/OFDA, organized meetings with academics and local and national organizations. The delegation included University of Papua Rector Dr. Jacob Manusawai and faculty member Dr. Hendri Hendri; superintendent, West Papua Regional Disaster Management Agency, Derek Ampnir; and Charles Ham, coordinator, Disaster Response, Hope Worldwide.

During this visit, an MOU was signed linking UHM and the University of Papua to further strengthen the partnership for future projects. There is also potential opportunities for student exchanges and collaborative research projects.

FEMA JOBS!!! See links below

The Community Planning and Capacity Building Recovery Support Function (CPCB RSF) is recruiting reservists to join its cadre!

FEMA is currently hiring for all Expert Specialist positions within the CPCB RSF cadre. Following a disaster, communities and their local governments are often forced to make complex recovery decisions. These decisions range widely and can include important topics such as business reinvestment, affordable housing, and building long-term resilience. In addition, many of these communities may lack the capability to address the planning and decision-making processes needed to start their recovery. The consequences of these decisions may impact community prosperity, safety, and identity for years to come. The Community Planning and Capacity Building Recovery Support Function (CPCB RSF) supports and builds the recovery capacities and community planning resources of local, State and Tribal governments after a disaster. If you are interested in helping communities after a disaster.

Please pass these positions along to anyone that may be interesting in being considered. Applicants can apply either through the USAJobs link or by sending their resume and any supplemental materials directly to [email protected].. Please note the closing date is August 31, 2017.
