We need your input!

The COVID-19 pandemic has really given us all a lot to think about when it comes to how we want the economy to grow and our island to develop in the Primary Urban Center. Would you please give us 10 minutes of your time to share your thoughts?

From now until July 6th, you can give your feedback on the Draft Pedestrian Plan Network!

Share your comments on our island's pedestrian infrastructure and help City and County of Honolulu Complete Streets make it safer for people to walk through the O'ahu Pedestrian Plan.

We need your help! We are working on the Oahu Pedestrian Plan and would like to hear YOUR comments and opinions on our Pedestrian infrastructure on the island.

The objective of this project is to define the steps needed to make Honolulu a more walk-able, livable, and healthy CITY. Nearly everyone, for at least some portion of every day, is a pedestrian. Walking is the oldest and most efficient, affordable, and environmentally-friendly form of transportation—it’s how transit riders eventually reach their destinations, how drivers get from the parking lot to the front door, and how cyclists get from the bike rack to the business. Walking helps to build strong communities and is the primary way that neighbors get to know one another. Walking is an easy way to improve mental and physical health.

Public input continues to play a huge role in shaping the O‘ahu Pedestrian Plan, providing valuable information on pedestrian issues, needs, and priorities for the communities around the island.

We are asking for public input on the Draft Pedestrian Priority Network starting now until Monday, July 6th 2020 at 4:30 p.m. To submit any comments, please visit:

http://www.honolulu.gov/completestreets/pedplan

The public may also contact Daniel Alexander at [email protected] or 808-768-6652 for any additional information or comments.

It’s Earth Day!

Today, marks the anniversary of the environmental movement. We commemorate today by remembering the hard work of so many people over the years to protect Earth. We also take time today to think about how we continue to build upon that work so that we, and future generations, can live together in a healthier and safer environment.

🌎 50 years ago, 20 million Americans took to the streets for the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970.

🌍 The first Earth Day spurred a wave of environmental legislation. Because of that day and the resulting momentum, tireless work went into creating the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

🌏 Earth Day is now celebrated internationally. This is a global movement and every day people are working tirelessly to save our Earth.

🌬 This year’s Earth Day theme is Climate Action. The challenge of climate change is huge and there is a part for all of us to play.

Planning Division staff, alongside all of the divisions at the Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP), have implemented measures such as staggered schedules and social distancing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.⁣⁣ ⁣ ⁣

☎️ Planning Division, Land Use Permits Division, and Site Development Division will not be assisting walk-ins at the counter. Please call the relevant division, and you will be directed to available staff or connected via e-mail to a staff member who can best assist you. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
📥 Customer Service Division is limiting the number of individuals who can be inside the Data Access and Imaging Branch (DAIB) area and allowing some services at the permit counter to be drop-off only. ⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
📞 If you are unsure of which division at DPP can best assist you, call the main line at 768-8000 and we will happily direct your call.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Mahalo for your understanding and patience as we all work together to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Last month, thanks to Honolulu Rail Transit and Hitachi JV, the team had the opportunity to take a tour of the Keone‘ae Station and the Rail Operations Center (ROC)!⁣

In no particular order, here are a few of the cool things we learned:⁣

1️⃣ This rail system will be the first fully automated train system in the entire country!⁣

🚈 Trains will run from 4 a.m. to midnight. During peak hours, you can expect a train to arrive at a station about every 5 minutes. During off-peak hours, you can expect one about every 11 minutes.⁣

🚲 Ride a bicycle? Check out the bicycle stairway that’s been included along the stairway in order to easily get your bike up to the platform.⁣

🚉 17 trains will operate, but there will also be 3 back-up trains. Also, the ROC is set up with a fabrication shop so that any repair can be taken care of on site!

🏄 🧳 Got a surfboard or luggage? Every train car is equipped to carry it all.⁣

📚 It takes a lot of skill and knowledge to maintain a rail system and if you’re interested in this career, Leeward Community College’s Integrated Industrial Technology course can help prepare you for a career in rail. ⁣

Mahalo again for having us!⁣
