Love wins.

The marriage equality amendment has PASSED. We have made history be repealing discriminatory language from our State Constitution and protecting civil liberties for Hawaiʻi’s LGBTQ+ community.

Mahalo to everyone who has supported our campaign. With this vote, we have shown once more that the islands are a sanctuary for equal rights.

As we witness turbulent times in our nation, we have guaranteed the freedom to marry for our state. Our victory will resonate for generations to come.

MAKE SURE YOU VOTE YES ON 1 TODAY!‼️

Camron Hurt, Program Manager for Common Cause Hawaiʻi, is asking people to vote YES on ballot question 1. Read his full statement below.

“You don’t have to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community to support that community’s right to have a permissible and lawful marriage through the state government.

Hawaiʻi has time and time again stood for the civil rights of minority populations, and now this generation must heed the call to solidify the right to marriage by voting Yes on #1, the first question that will be on the ballot.”

Real life stories! A message from Jaime and Shannon about the importance of voting YES on question 1!

“I never imagined the possibility of having the right to marry the love of my life until it became a reality when the Hawai‘i Marriage Equality Act passed in 2013.

Shannon and I have been together since 1999. In 2019, after being together for 20 years, we made it official.

The freedom to marry someone should be a right available to all. We want to ensure that our LGBTQ+ ‘ohana has the choice to marry who they want today, tomorrow and always, without the possibility of the state legislature repealing same-sex marriage due to outdated language in our constitution.

The marriage equality amendment is about people like Cheryl and Dee. Here is their story.

“Our careers that began in education and tennis have taken us to many places around the world. Through travel and work we have found that communities have been accepting when we have been a part of the fabric and involved in whatʻs happening in those spaces.

While acceptance is important, it doesnʻt allow everyone the same economic, social, health, and psychological benefits that married individuals receive.

The freedom to marry is a fundamental civil and human right. Equal protection under the law helps to ensure that all families are afforded the same rights, benefits and opportunities.

That is why Hawaiʻi must vote Yes on question 1. It’s about guaranteeing civil liberties for all, always.”

“Same-sex marriage has been codified in Hawaiʻi for over a decade and updating our State Constitution to reflect this law is long overdue.

Being able to marry who you want is a fundamental right and I look forward to voting YES on ballot question 1 this November.”
