Sons & Daughters of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team

Sons & Daughters of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team Preserve, perpetuate and share the legacy of the Americans of Japanese Ancestry who served in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in World War II.

As Americans of Japanese ancestry, our fathers of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team fought two battles in World War II: prejudice at home and the enemy in Europe. At the outbreak of the war, Japanese Americans faced suspicion and distrust. Executive Order 9066 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt sealed the fate of Japanese Americans living on the West Coast. They were placed in barbed wired internme

nt camps, leaving behind property and possession. Through turmoil and adversity at home, our fathers enlisted and went off to fight in a war far away. They fought with valor and honor. They fought for a country that doubted their loyalty. Many perished in fighting for what they believed in: their family, their home, their country. By the war’s end, the Nisei soldiers, as they were sometimes called, gained respect and honor as a great military unit. To this day, the 442nd remains as the Army’s most highly decorated combat unit in U.S. history for its size and length of service. As sons and daughters, we will never forget the dedication, sacrifice and courage of our fathers. It is through their accomplishments that we are here today. It is through their valor that we take our place as citizens of this great country. To ensure that this great legacy lives on; this is the mission of our organization.

Sons & Daughters join the battle to restore the civil rights of Noboru & Elaine Kawamoto so they can be reunited

At the age of 95, after serving in World War II to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today and after years of working hard as a longshoreman so he could afford to pay for elder care, he and his wife Elaine are being denied the right to live together in the same care home because of a quirk in a State of Hawaii law.

As a member of the 100/442nd RCT, Noboru and his brothers in arms won the battles for us in World War II. Now in the final battle of his long life, he needs our support. Here's how you can help.

Send an email to Hawaii state legislators. Get details on the Sons & Daughters website page:

Print out a copy of our Petition to the Hawaiian Legislature and get signatures of your ‘ohana, friends, workmates, etc., so they can add their voice. Ask them to forward information on this important issue to their ‘ohana and friends. Download the petition form here:

Married for 68 years, 100/442 RCT WWII Nisei Veteran Noboru Kawamoto & his wife Elaine want to live out their remaining years in the same Community Care Foster Family Home. Please support our petition drive for the passage of HB600 which will enable this private pay married couple to be reunited in happiness.Noboru and Elaine Kawamoto

An effort to reunite an elderly couple of more than six decades to live together in a community care home has been begun again. House Bill 600, which would allow two private pay clients to live together in a community care foster family home (CCFFH), has been carried over from last year’s legislative session, where it stalled in conference committee.

Because no hearing has been scheduled for the bill, the son of 442nd veteran Noboru Kawamoto and his caretakers are spearheading a petition drive to get the bill heard and passed.

A rally for Noboru and Elaine Kawamoto is also scheduled at the State Capitol on Tuesday, April 5 at 11:30 am.

At the 442nd Veterans Club, the Kawamoto’s son Norman said his father misses his wife very much. Under current state law, they are only able to see each other a couple of times a week.

“Right now, he’s cautiously optimistic,” Kawamoto said of his father. “He’s hoping that the legislators will release this bill, but he misses my mom something terribly. I’d like to really get them together for their final years and I think they’d be happy together in the same care home.”

Currently, the state only allows one private pay client in a CCFFH. The law requires the care home to leave a bed open for someone who is on Medicaid, but the couple has enough money to pay for the services, so they do not qualify for Medicaid.

Kawamoto is now 95 years of age and his wife 89.

Please sign the Petition in support of a U.S. commemorative postage stamp to preserve the legacy of the nisei veterans of World War II! Deadline is March 20...93,000+ more signature needed!

We respectfully ask that the President green light a commemorative postage stamp honoring the Japanese American World War II soldiers, known as “the Nisei soldiers.” The USPS has delayed this stamp subject for ten years.
