🚨 URGENT TRAFFIC ALERT – HONOR, MI 🚨
6/4/2026 -PLEASE SHARE-

Today, Molon Excavating will be working with MDOT and BCRC to mill and repave US-31 through Honor.

The project limits extend from in front of the Benzie County Road Commission facility (Ely Rd.) to just past Riverside Drive, as shown on the project map. We will be milling 12' lanes and repaving.

This operation has a lot of moving parts, including numerous businesses, driveways, and side roads that must remain accessible throughout construction. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing vehicles through the work zone.

Please avoid the area if possible and expect delays if traveling through Honor today.

Most importantly, please slow down and stay alert where workers are present. Every person in that work zone has family and friends expecting them to make it home safely at the end of the day.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work to improve this section of roadway.

Good afternoon Benzie County!

Crews are back at it today across the county. Graders are continuing work on seasonal roads, while skip loaders are repairing edge ruts and addressing other minor maintenance issues. Our sign crew is out replacing and maintaining signs, and additional crews are handling drainage and roadside maintenance as needed.

Work continues on the Bixler Road project. While the culvert replacement is complete, the road will remain closed until the stream restoration work is finished and the site is stabilized.

A reminder that the US-31 mill and fill project through Honor is scheduled for tomorrow and Friday, weather permitting. Expect one-lane traffic with flaggers directing vehicles through the work zone. Please plan for delays and consider alternate routes if possible.

As always, please slow down, stay alert, and give road crews plenty of room to work safely.

Have a great day and stay safe out there

Good morning Benzie County!

Brine operations are officially complete for the season. A big thank you to Great Lakes Chloride for another smooth and efficient application process.

Today, our graders are working on seasonal roads while skip loaders continue repairing edge ruts along paved roads. Our sign crew is also out replacing and maintaining signs throughout the county.

We expect to wrap up our portion of the Bixler Road culvert replacement today. However, the road will remain closed until AJS Excavating completes the stream restoration work associated with the project.

As a reminder, Molon Excavating is scheduled to begin milling and repaving US-31 through Honor this Thursday and Friday, weather permitting. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing vehicles through the work zone. If possible, plan ahead and consider an alternate route to avoid delays.

As always, please watch for road crews and equipment working throughout the county and give them plenty of room to operate safely.

Good morning Benzie County!

Brine operations are officially complete for the season. Thank you again to Great Lakes Chloride for a smooth and efficient application process.

Today, our graders are working on seasonal roads, while skip loaders continue repairing edge ruts along paved roads. Our sign crew is out replacing and maintaining signs, and our park crew is busy keeping the MDOT roadside parks looking their best.

We also began our portion of the Bixler Road project today with the culvert replacement work now underway. Lots of crew visible in the video. This is our first project of 2026 so all of Admin was on-site to ensure proper safety protocol and use this as a teaching lesson for proper slopes on the trench, signage, transit use, PPE and finding lines safely and efficiently within the ROW.

As a reminder, Molon Excavating will be milling and repaving US-31 through Honor this Thursday and Friday. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing vehicles through the work zone. If possible, plan ahead and consider an alternate route to avoid delays.

As always, please watch for road crews and equipment working throughout the county.

Good morning Benzie County!

Brine operations will be wrapping up today and tomorrow as crews make final passes and verify road coverage throughout the county. A huge thank you to Great Lakes Chloride for getting everything completed smoothly and promptly this year.

Today, crews are out grading the final gravel roads, working on ditching and drainage issues, maintaining MDOT roadside parks, and repairing edge ruts along paved roads with skip loaders and dump trucks.

For the edge rut repairs, a dump truck spreads 23A gravel along the roadway edge while the skip loader wheel-packs the material and blades it smooth. It’s a quick-moving operation, and crews will be covering a lot of ground throughout the day.

Please keep an eye out for workers and equipment in your area and use caution when approaching active work zones.

We also have a Board Meeting today at 9:30 AM here at the Road Commission facility.

Have a great day and stay safe out there!

Good morning Benzie County, and happy Wednesday!

Crews continue staying busy across the county with graders, blade trucks, and pothole patchers all out improving gravel road conditions and keeping roads in shape. Brine operations are also continuing as weather allows.

We also have a ditching project underway on Lakewood Circle to help improve drainage in the area.

A reminder that the US-31 mill and fill project through Honor is scheduled to begin June 4th and wrap up June 5th. Traffic will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic through the work zone. Molon Excavating will be handling the project, and it should make for a much smoother ride through Honor once completed.

We also have a Board Meeting tomorrow at 9:30 AM here at the BCRC facility in Honor.

As always, please slow down and use caution around crews and equipment working throughout the county.

Stay safe out there!

Today we’re thinking about the families, friends, and coworkers of the two Michigan Department of Transportation workers who tragically lost their lives while working on the roadway.

This is a heartbreaking reminder that road workers put themselves just feet away from live traffic every single day to keep roads safe for the traveling public. Whether it’s road commissions, contractors, utility crews, or MDOT workers, everyone deserves to make it home at the end of the day.

Please slow down, stay alert, and give crews plenty of room to work.

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by this tragedy.
