The Hood River Police Department is excited to congratulate Annalee King the winner of this year's "Police Ride to School," which is part of the annual Teddy Webber Scholarship Auction.

Annalee enjoyed a memorable ride with her friends to school alongside our local police officers, arriving in style and creating lasting memories along the way. This special experience not only brought smiles to Annalee but also strengthened the positive connections between students and our Police Department.

The annual Teddy Webber Scholarship Auction honors the legacy of Teddy Webber, a beloved former May Street Elementary teacher whose kindness, enthusiasm, and genuine care for students left a lasting impact on generations of families. Teddy had a remarkable ability to connect with every child he taught and was adored throughout the school community. His dedication to education and to his students continues to inspire our community.

Funds raised through the auction support scholarship opportunities for past May Street students and educational and grant initiatives, ensuring that Teddy's commitment to helping students succeed lives on.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this year's auction, and congratulations to our "Police Ride to School" winner Annalee King.

Dear Community,

We recently apprehended an individual on an out-of-state warrant with full extradition, resulting in no bail option. The individual was accompanied by a cat, which is now in our care. Unfortunately, our local facilities only accommodate dogs, and we are seeking assistance in finding temporary housing for this feline. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Another safety fair has been successfully completed. The weather today was great and we had a great opportunity to connect with our friends. Once again a huge and special thanks to our friends from Duckwall Fruit, Wells and Sons, Safeway and Walmart for their generous donations. Being able to participate in this community event year after year would not be possible without these businesses.

Thank you

On March 19th, 2026, an officer with specialized training in DUII-Controlled Substance impairment investigation stopped a vehicle for expired registration. Yep, you read that right, it's the third time this last week an impaired driver got pulled over for expired registration. The vehicle's registration was so old that every police officer outside of the metro area would pull it over. Based on our recent activity, the memo did not reach this particular driver about registering their vehicle if they're going to be driving in Hood River. Or maybe the combination of fentanyl and m**h just obscured their great judgment. Either way, during the stop, the officer spotted multiple signs of impairment, and the driver eventually failed field sobriety tests. The driver was taken into custody, and during a search of the vehicle, drug paraphernalia, packaging materials, a digital scale, m**hamphetamine, and remnants of fentanyl were found. There was also a large amount of cash, which makes you wonder why they couldn’t just pay the registration fee. Oh, and let's not forget the dreaded outstanding warrant the driver had out of Linn County. The driver was taken into custody for possession and attempted delivery of m**hamphetamine, DUII controlled substance, and two counts of identity theft for safekeeping a complete stranger's credit cards. The moral of the story this past week is just pay your registration fees. It'll make those pesky Hood River City Police Officers drive on by. 🚓🚓

The HRPD has always been very transparent about DUII laws in the state of Oregon for our residents and visitors alike.

Effective January 1, 2024, Oregon House Bill 2316 significantly expanded DUII laws to include impairment by any substance, including over-the-counter medications (e.g., cough syrup), or supplements, if they cause impairment behind the wheel. This broadens the previous definition focused on alcohol, cannabis, and controlled substances.

Recently we continue to see impaired drivers who are also carrying a substantial amount of narcotics along with being under the influence.

On March 16th, 2026, an officer with HRPD, who has specialized training in the arena of DUII-controlled substance impairment, stopped a vehicle for a registration violation. During the stop, the driver exhibited multiple signs of impairment. The driver acknowledged using both m**hamphetamine and fentanyl approximately 2 hours prior. Additionally, the driver admitted purchasing large quantities of drugs from the Portland area. The driver, a felony offender, had a pair of brass knuckles, which he was restricted from possessing. The total amount of seized suspected m**hamphetamine was 84.3 grams, and the total amount of seized suspected fentanyl was 35.5 grams.

On March 17, 2026, an officer with HRPD, who has specialized training in the arena of DUII-Controlled Substance impairment, stopped a vehicle for an expired registration. During the stop, the driver exhibited multiple signs of impairment. After performing poorly on field sobriety tests, the driver was taken into custody. The driver admitted to using m**hamphetamine a few hours prior to being stopped. During a search of the vehicle, 22.1 grams of suspected fentanyl and 1.4 grams of suspected m**hamphetamine were seized. These types of arrests are not new to our officers and show that these illicit drugs used while driving could have severe consequences for our family and friends.
