Job Title: Horseback Guide & Barn Manager
Location: Hawaii (North Kona Volcano Area)
Job Overview:
The Horseback Guide & Barn Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of horseback riding tours on the Hawaii North Kona Volcano, ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience for guests. The role involves caring for and managing a herd of 30 horses, leading horseback tours, and overseeing daily operations of the barn and guest services. The successful candidate will balance hands-on horse care with managerial duties, ensuring both the animals’ welfare and high customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities:
• Horse Care & Management:
• Oversee the daily care, feeding, and health of 30 horses.
• Perform regular checks and coordinate with veterinarians and farriers for medical care and hoof maintenance.
• Implement training programs to ensure horses are well-behaved, healthy, and ready for tours.
• Tour Guiding:
• Lead guests on horseback tours around the North Kona Volcano, providing information about the area’s geology, history, and ecology.
• Ensure the safety of all participants by providing thorough instructions and safety briefings before each tour.
• Address any guest concerns or emergencies that arise during tours.
• Barn Management opportunities
• Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient barn environment.
• Oversee barn staff, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and providing training as needed.
• Ensure all equipment, tack, and facilities are well-maintained and safe for use.
• Manage inventory of feed, bedding, and other supplies, placing orders as necessary.
• Guest Interaction:
• Handle guest inquiries, bookings, and feedback in a professional and friendly manner.
• Ensure a high level of customer service is provided at all times, with a focus on creating memorable experiences.
• Manage daily guest flow, coordinating tour times and ensuring that all guests are properly outfitted and prepared for their ride.
• Safety & Compliance:
• Ensure all operations comply with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
• Conduct regular safety drills and training for staff.
• Maintain records of horse health, guest incidents, and staff training.
Qualifications:
• Proven experience working with and managing horses, including handling, training, and care.
• Previous experience as a tour guide or in a customer-facing role is highly desirable.
• Strong leadership and management skills, with experience overseeing staff.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests.
• Knowledge of equine first aid and basic veterinary care.
• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment and handle emergency situations calmly.
