The scoopers will be working in Lake Cushman this evening.. for a fire in Jefferson County, by the Hood Canal Bridge.. state route 104 and hwy 9 area.

Please leave room for them to work... Stay out of the scooping paths they develop...

This fire is not in our area.... but this is a reminder to be safe with fire.... any fire can be big at this time of year. Especially with the wind.. .

NWS has issued a Flash Flood warning for the Bear Gulch Burn Scar area effective until 5:30PM tonight, August 13, 2026.

See the image below.

Stay away from the burn scar area and move to higher ground.

There are currently only 12 spots filled of the 34 spots available for donating blood at the Blood drive this Wednesday, July 29, 2026

There is a concerningly low blood supply that has prompted a national appeal.
Please donate if you can!

If you google "What is Camp Blaze?" The answer comes back as:
"Camp Blaze is a free, week-long leadership and firefighting training camp held biannually in North Bend, Washington, for young women aged 16 to 19. Taught entirely by professional women firefighters, the program aims to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills while introducing participants to careers in the fire service."

The current Hoodsport Fire and EMS roster has approximately 21% female responders and we are proud to have three of our own volunteering their time to support growth and representation in a field where the national statistic is 91% male and 9% female, helping support the future helpers of the world ♥️

Last Thursday, we mobilized a truck with the Mason County Strike Team to the Wallace Walker Fire in Franklin County. As of two days ago, it was 798 acres. These crews will stay out there for up to 14 days, if needed.

It is hot and dry outside, please be safe with anything that could start a fire...for the most up-to-date fire restrictions, please go to the Mason County Fire Marshall website.
