Today the Hoopa Valley Youth Council supported a youth lead action to invite and engage to community to be more proactive with the health and welfare of the students. They supported a NO SHOW and held a rally bringing many vital concerns to the for front and marched unto the school district campus requesting a meeting with John Ray Superintendent of the School District.

We Never supported a Walk Out, we supported the NO SHOW and gave an healthy alternative by rallying together at the Youth Center with food and drinks.

The walk out was a result of youth being forced to go to school on a day they wanted to be in support of their fellow students as well as a result of them not happy with their current school environment. We take full responsibility for the NO SHOW but the walk out is the responsibility of the youth that walked out, the school administration and the parents.

Looking forward to seeing the community back the students and the school to grasp the power that we never knew we could grab

The Hoopa Valley Youth Council voted tonight with a majority vote to support the high school students action on Wednesday May 18th NO SHOW.
We will stand in solidarity with our youth to use our voice and say that we come first in regards to the safety and health of our schools. We have seen 1st hand the attention this action has caused in our class rooms and homes. We have staff who think this is against them and staff that support the youth raising concerns and our voice.
We know that there may be better tactics but something had to be done to get the attention of our community. We appauld the youth that started this movement and we encourage you to get a hold of us that we may better assist you. We are not trying to make this a negative situation we encourage positive feed back to help us resolve these concerns.
We know the money is a big concern but we have seen the results of this flyer and the power it has influenced already. We are youth that is ready to make a change. We encourage all parents and students to stand behind this youth lead action. We are going to dig into this as much as we can prior to Wednesday and stay tuned for more information coming soon.
