On October 29th at the Monument Arts & Cultural Center, experience a 46 minute preview of Ken Burns’ new six-part documentary series, THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION before it airs on PBS. This powerful series explores the nation’s founding struggle and the eight-year fight for independence, told through Burns’ signature storytelling style.

Come early to mingle with Ethan Allen and Green Mountains Boys in full period clothing. After the screening you’ll enjoy complimentary 18th century inspired fare. Guests are invited to dress in period clothing as well!

September 13, 2025: Battle of Bennington Second Engagement Tour, Lecture, and Reception Offered

No less a personage than Thomas Jefferson called the Battle of Bennington “...the first link in the chain of successes that issued in the surrender at Saratoga.” The Friends of the Bennington Battlefield, whose mission is to interpret and share the history of the Battle at the Bennington Battlefield New York State Historic Site, invites its members and the public who are not yet members to a special reception on September 13, 2025, at the Barnett House on Caretaker’s Road in the Town of Hoosick.

A “Second Engagement Tour and Reception” will offer a guided tour of the location known as “The Rocky Ridge,” an area of private property near the Battlefield that played a key role in the second and decisive phase of the Battle. With special permission from the owner of the property, the tour, led by local historian and author Phil Holland, will begin at 1 pm and last about an hour. It will involve moderate to strenuous hiking on a wooded hillside. Guests will be able to explore a part of the Battle area that is not open to the public.

Following the tour, at 2:30 pm there will be a reception at the Barnett House on Caretaker’s Road across the Rte 67 entrance to the Battlefield, with 18th-century-themed music and refreshments, a silent auction and a raffle. Saratoga National Park Historian Eric Schnitzer will present a talk entitled “Grasshoppers and Butterflies Reconsidered: British Light 3-Pounders of the 1770s,” about some of the British cannons that were used at the Battle. With such a title, it promises to be full of surprises and be entertaining as well!

Because this is a special members-only event, being a member of the Friends is required. If you are not yet a member, or if you have been a member previously and your membership has lapsed, don’t worry! Simply RSVP to come to the event where you will be able to obtain your membership and take part in all of the activities.

The $35 cost for the event includes the $25 fee to become a member of the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield; for paid-up members tickets are $10 each.
