Shades Mountain Elementary School K-5 School in Hoover, Alabama It is the sense of neighborhood and family along with the pride of being a member of it that makes Shades Mountain special.

Shades Mountain Elementary is recognized as one of the oldest and most historic elementary schools in the Hoover City Schools system. Nestled within the trees at the top of Shades Mountain, it is a school known for its strong parent and community support and caring, creative faculty. The school’s mascot is a lion; it is also the acronym (Learning In Our Neighborhood School) used to describe the ch

aracter of Shades Mountain. It is a place where a child is not considered yours or mine but ours. Shades Mountain encourages growth in learners of all ages.

Today in Kindergarten, we celebrated a very special wedding—between the letters Q and U!
They promised to stick together forever, just like they always do in words like “quick,” “quiet,” and “queen.”
The ceremony was filled with laughter, learning, and lots of adorable outfits.
It was the perfect way to bring phonics to life and make learning unforgettable!

Students learned about the Mardi Gras, Peanut and Shrimp festivals along with occupational and recreational activities in our state. Students also learned about the role of money in everyday life and spent their $2 at the Festival Store!
