Sue Simpson, one of our "best" Friends, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the age of 94.

She was a lover of books and an avid reader. During her working life, Sue worked in high school and church libraries, and at the Hoover Public Library, Hoover, Alabama. After retiring, Sue supported the library through her work with Friends of the Hoover Public Library.

Sue and Frieda Bearden were instrumental in setting up the Friends Book Store, and Sue spent many hours working there, often with her husband Charlie. Many of us first met Sue when we volunteered to work in the bookstore or at one of the Friends book sales. She scheduled all volunteers and kept us on track each month.

She went on to help run the library at the Galleria Woods Senior Living Community after moving there in 2018.

She is survived by her sister Janette Newton; her daughter Sue Ellen Williams; her two sons, Charles Simpson, Jr. and Timothy Simpson; and grandchildren Ben Williams and Bryan Williams.

The celebration of Sue's life will be on Friday, April 4, 2025 at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Rd., Pelham. Visitation will begin at 10 AM and the Celebration of Life will be at 11 AM.

The Dill Pickers are sometimes asked, "Just what kind of music do you play?" They're a vocal string band that happens to own bluegrass instruments. Truth be told, bluegrass bands do not usually have pianos, clarinets, accordions, strumsticks or many other such crazy instruments that the Dill Pickers use in their wide variety of music and frivolity.

"Coming from our combined theatrical backgrounds, it just makes sense to us to entertain instead of just singing and playing."

So, don't let the banjo and fiddle fool you. The Dill Pickers will flat out entertain you and you'll leave with a smile on your face.
