Krewe de Second Grade rocked the house! 🥳 STEAM + Mardi Gras = An epic parade! 🤩 Our second graders built floats during STEAM class and paraded their incredible floats today. It was a perfect blend of learning and celebration 💜💛💚
💛 Inclusion Week culminated in a truly inspiring experience! 🦽🏀 Our 3rd-5th graders were thrilled by a wheelchair basketball demonstration from the amazing Lakeshore Foundation. We're deeply thankful for their lesson on adaptive sports and the power of inclusive athletics. Several teachers also experienced the excitement of competition and joy of inclusivity!
🩷 The Kindergartners had a special visit from Ms. Julie, Lola Ruth's mom, who shared valuable insights on what inclusion means to families of kids with disabilities. She emphasized that all students, regardless of ability, deserve and long to be included, valued, and treated with kindness.
🧡 Our 1st and 2nd graders explored the themes of disability and inclusion through a thoughtful "Finding Nemo" lesson, learning about both intellectual and physical differences and the importance of respect for everyone.
💙 Thank you Coach Thomas and Coach Olinger for organizing such a meaningful and impactful week educating students on the power of inclusion! Your efforts have helped our students learn valuable lessons about empathy, respect, and kindness! As part of Kindness Week, our PE program has a week of Inclusion and Disability Awareness! On Monday they explored different communication devices so that ALL students can be included in physical activities! Adapting our communication to different needs creates a team environment with respect and inclusion! 🥰

Thank you to Ms. Chatman and Ms. Hinshaw, our Speech and Language Pathologists, for leading these lessons. Thank you Hank Poore who came to share with the students how he communicates using his eye tracker AAC and how he can text with his toes!
