Nearly 200 people representing several Hoover churches came together to pray Thursday night. They gathered in the parking lot of the Hoover Met for an event called: An Evening of Prayer: Compassion and Community Through Christ. Attendees sang, prayed as a group and as indiviual familes seeking God for peace, unity and racial harmony.

Today, employees of the Hoover Parks and Recreation Department decided to turn the tables and “serve” #HooverPoliceDepartment police officers—literally. They grilled hot dogs and burgers for officers as a way to say thanks for all they do. #Jeffersonsrestaurant decided to get in on the fun by donating their world famous wings and the Parks and Recreation Foundation donated the chips. Having missed the SEC baseball tournament this year due to COVID-19, Parks and Rec team members say it was a pleasure to do a little barbecue to honor the men and women in blue.

-From Mayor Frank Brocato-

I am grateful to the City of Hoover employees that jumped in quickly to help Hoover City Schools staff members pull together two wonderful graduation ceremonies for our high school seniors. These young people worked hard to reach this goal and deserved to be celebrated and recognized. I am grateful to Supt. Kathy Murphy for her vision and leadership in quickly organizing these events. I wish nothing but success and health for the Class of 2020.

Congratulations to the newly elected officers of the Hoover Historical Society for the 2020-21 club year. They are: Jim Langley, President; Deb Burtnett, Corresponding Secretary; Edna McWilliams, Treasurer and Linda Joseph, Publicity. Mayor Brocato installed the new officers last week. At that ceremony, Jim Langley, president of the HHS, received the Jack Crouch Award; Inez McCollum earned recognition for her many years of service as a docent and educator at The Folklore Center, operated by the HHS and the City for public school children in Hoover. Jim also painted a portrait of Inez on her last date as a Docent in November 2019; she is a multi-talented member of our group. Gene Fuller held an iPad with the Zoom link on it for about 7 other participants 'at' the installation of officers event.

May 17-23, 2020, is the 46th annual National EMS Week. In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS practitioners and the important work they do in our nation's communities. We appreciate the work our EMT's do every day, especially during the last few months as they have faced a new threat and continue to provide excellent pre-hospital care.

City of Hoover

Hoover was officially incorporated as city on May 18, 1967, with only 406 residents. 50 years later, the city has nearly 90,000 residents.

With a diverse population, Hoover is now the sixth largest city in the state of Alabama. Growth of Hoover can be attributed to many factors of which include: completion of Interstate 65 and Interstate 459 which created a major interchange, the development of the Riverchase community, the opening of the Riverchase Galleria and the financial benefits that allowed the creation of many city services and boards.

For additional information check the city’s website at www.hooveralabama.gov or on the city’s social media accounts: Facebook - @CityofHoover, Twitter- @CityofHoover, and Instagram- @CityofHoover.
