Thank you, Mayor Nick Derzis !
20 Years of Service to School Safety
The Hoover Police Department proudly recognizes former Chief and current Mayor Nick Derzis as he concludes 20 years of service on the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) Board of Directors.
For two decades, Chief Derzis shared his experience on a national level while learning from law enforcement leaders and School Resource Officers working in communities across the country. That experience helped strengthen the Hoover Police Department’s commitment to school safety here at home.
Reflecting on his service with NASRO, Chief Derzis said:
“Serving on the NASRO board gave me the opportunity to learn from law enforcement professionals from across the country. I enjoyed that experience so much because of the passion and commitment everyone brought to the table. We shared information about emerging trends and what was happening in our communities, and I was able to bring that valuable knowledge back to Hoover, Alabama. That experience continues to help us strengthen our efforts to keep our children safe at school.”
That exchange of knowledge and experience helped Chief Derzis bring a broader perspective back to Hoover as the department worked to keep our schools safe.
We thank Mayor Derzis for 20 years of leadership, service, and dedication to school safety, both in Hoover and across the nation.
Congratulations, Chief Derzis, and thank you for your commitment to our schools, our students, and our community. 💙
