Today, the NJSP hosted an impaired driving education program at Hopatcong High School to help educate students about the dangers and consequences of driving while under the influence.

This interactive program is designed to reinforce safe driving practices and provide students with a firsthand look at how impairment affects a driver’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Students participated in a hands-on course using golf carts while wearing Fatal Vision goggles, which simulate the effects of alcohol impairment through reaction delays and vision distortion.

While the experience cannot fully recreate the physiological and psychological effects of alcohol, the practical exercise, combined with educational discussions on impaired driving, leaves a lasting impact on students and highlights the serious risks associated with driving under the influence.

Students were also educated on the Graduate Driver License (GDL) process, with an emphasis on the importance of following each step and developing safe driving habits early on.

Programs like this provide a multifaceted, interactive approach to educating young drivers and helping them make responsible decisions behind the wheel.

Drive sober. Drive safe. Make good choices.

Officers from the Hopatcong Police Department had a great time attending the Lake Hopatcong block party and enjoyed spending time talking with all of the Lake community residents!

It was a great opportunity to connect with neighbors, answer questions, and enjoy a fun community event together.

Our patrol boat was also on site along with one of our patrol vehicles on display, giving everyone a chance to check them out and meet the officers who help keep our community safe both on the roads and on the water.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and helped make it such a great event!
