Last night, the Hopatcong Fire Department held a department-wide water supply drill at the State Park, bringing together all three companies along with our cadets, new members, chiefs, and senior firefighters.

The focus of the drill was water movement and teamwork. Members practiced drafting water from the lake, establishing a relay between engines, and operating a tanker shuttle to move water to a reserve pond, where another engine supplied the attack line.

Drills like this are about more than moving water. They’re about learning how to work together, communicate, and build confidence as a department. Our newer members and cadets had the opportunity to work alongside experienced firefighters, ask questions, get hands-on experience, and continue learning the ropes from the people around them.

Every member plays a role, and every drill helps keep us prepared for when the real call comes in.

This weekend, members of the Hopatcong Fire Department attended the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Weekend in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

National Fallen Firefighters Foundation

Each year, firefighters from across the country who have lost their lives in the line of duty are honored at the National Fire Academy. This year, 207 names were added to the memorial.

We pause to recognize Henry Sardina III, Hopatcong’s own, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. We honor his memory.

Events throughout the weekend provide time for remembrance and reflection, with Sunday’s ceremony bringing departments and communities together in a shared moment of honor.

As a department, we stand together in recognizing the sacrifice behind the badge and the responsibility we all carry moving forward.

On April 21, our members responded to a structure fire on Greenwood Avenue alongside the Hopatcong Police Department and mutual aid companies.

Thanks to the Police and all involved for the quick response and strong coordination on scene.

On April 21, 2026, patrol units responded to a reported possible structure fire on Greenwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed active flames coming from the right side of the residence. The homeowner confirmed that all occupants and dog had safely exited the home, though a family cat remained inside.

The Hopatcong Fire Department quickly arrived on scene and assumed command, with assistance from mutual aid departments.

Fire crews successfully extinguished the blaze.

In a positive outcome, firefighters were able to locate the family cat inside the home. The animal was safely removed, placed into a carrier, and returned to the family.

We are grateful for the swift response and teamwork of all agencies involved in ensuring the safety of the residents and pets.

Members of the Hopatcong Fire Department recently took part in a Ladder Operations Department Drill hosted at Company 3.

The drill focused on both team and individual ladder raises, along with aerial ladder operations to practice bringing equipment to the roof safely and efficiently.

Training like this reinforces what makes our department strong. Experienced members continue to pass down knowledge, while newer members gain hands-on experience and confidence. It’s also an opportunity for our companies to train together, problem solve, and operate as one team.
