🌲 ONE Message, ONE Goal: A Safer Alaska 🌲

Alaska, we know that wildfire season isn't a matter of "if," but "when." To make sure every Alaskan is prepared, the State of Alaska is joining forces with Emergency Managers from across the state to streamline how we talk about evacuations.

We are working to ensure that no matter where you are- from the Kenai Peninsula to the Interior- we are all using the same terminology, the same colors, and the same messaging.

Why does this matter? In an emergency, every second counts. Confusion costs time. By adopting a universal "Ready, Set, Go!" framework, we ensure that when you see a notification, you know exactly what it means and what you need to do to keep your family safe.

πŸ”₯ READY 🟒(Green): Preparedness. Have your plan and your "Go-Bag" ready.

πŸ”₯ SET 🟑 (Yellow): Awareness. There is a significant threat in your area. Be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.

πŸ”₯ GO! πŸ”΄ (Red): Immediate Evacuation. Leave now!

Taking it to the Finish Line

πŸ›οΈ This isn't just a suggestion- we are working with the Legislature through HJR 15 to urge statewide coordination and make these standards the official law of the land. We’re pushing for:

βœ… Consistent statewide public awareness campaigns.

βœ… Multi-agency evacuation drills before the heat of the season hits.

βœ… Clear, unified emergency notifications that Alaskans can trust.

We are stronger when we work together. Let’s make the 2026 season the most prepared one yet!

We are trying something new! Safe Sitter is a curriculum designed to equip up and coming babysitters in 6th grade or older with the tools they need to do so more safely and successfully. Class size is limited to 8, so please sign up soon if you'd like to join us. During this first offering, the cost has been covered by a generous grant from the Seward Community Foundation, but students should bring a lunch.

With summer just around the corner, this is a great time to check if your medevac insurance is current. Air transport is faster than ground transport, so in urgent, high priority calls requiring quick access to hospital level care, HSES relies on Guardian Flight Alaska and LifeMed Alaska for a medic meet up and transfer to Anchorage. With a one-time yearly payment, the cost of a helicopter transport is covered, potentially saving you thousands of dollars and providing peace of mind. We encourage all Hope residents and visitors to carry both LifeMed and Guardian membership, as we never know which service will be available At the time of an emergency.
