Hopedale Social Hall will be open as a cooling shelter for the next couple of days during the hot temperatures.
Please stop by or call 740-937-2333 if you need assistance.

As temperatures rise, it’s important to recognize the signs of heat-related illnesses and take steps to stay safe.
*Heat Stress / Heat Exhaustion Symptoms:
• Heavy sweating
• Weakness or fatigue
• Dizziness or headache
• Nausea or vomiting
• Cool, pale, or clammy skin
• Muscle cramps
*Heat Stroke (Medical Emergency):
• High body temperature (103°F+)
• Hot, red, dry skin (may stop sweating)
• Confusion or altered mental status
• Rapid pulse
• Loss of consciousness
*Staying Safe in the Heat:
• Drink plenty of water — don’t wait until you’re thirsty
• Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Avoid overexertion during peak heat hours
*Pet Safety in the Heat:
• Never leave pets in a parked vehicle — temperatures rise quickly, even with windows cracked
• Ensure pets have constant access to fresh, cool water
• Provide shade or bring them indoors during extreme heat
• Avoid walking pets on hot pavement — it can burn their paws
• Watch for signs of overheating: excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or vomiting
If your pet shows signs of heat distress, move them to a cool area and contact a veterinarian immediately.
