Your Hopewell Hose Volunteers had a very Busy 4th of July Weekend.
Over July 4th - 5th the Hopewell Hose Volunteers answered 11 calls for service. Assignments included
2 Automatic Fire Alarms
1 Miscellaneous Fire
1 Vehicle Fire
2 Auto Accidents (1 Extrication)
2 Storm related emergencies
3 Structure Fire Assignements (1 Working Fire)
Around 4:30 PM on July 4th the East Fishkill Fire District was alerted to an Auto Accident with possible entrapment on the TSP in Station 2’s area. Based on the report of Entrapment Hopewell Hose Firefighters reported to the firehouse. Rescue 51 responded and while en route it was confirmed that 1 occupant was entrapped, with numerous patients already self extricated. Rescue 51 arrived 1st due and assisted in the extrication of 1 occupant from the vehicle. On top of Stormville Fire Company, Hopewell Hose, Hillside Lake Fire Company, East Fishkill Fire Police and the East Fishkill Rescue Squad a large mutual aid ambulance response was required. Many Hopewell Hose Volunteers remained at the station to barbeque, watch the fireworks and if need be respond to any 4th of July related emergencies. What we werent expecting however was the violent storm that swept through our area! Members faced challenging conditions while responding to storm related emergencies. Our members faced downed trees, downed wires and flooded out roadways. Crews worked while responding to calls to clear the roadway of trees and large debris in order to handle our emergencies when we arrived.
At approximately 3:10 on the morning of July 5th Hopewell Hose was requested with our Tower Ladder to respond for an active Multiple Alarm Structure Fire in Pawling. Hopewell Hose responded with 39-46. While responding once again crews had to battle road closures due to downed trees and downed power lines. Once on scene 46 Truck set up for ladder pipe operations. Your Hopewell Hose Volunteers operated for roughly 6 hours before returning. Pawling is not a typical response for the members of Hopewell Hose, despite this we were able to immediately and seamlessly get into operation coordinating directly with Engine 54-11 and Tower Ladder 54-45 to extinguish remaining fire and protect the excavator operation in our sector of the building. We would like to commend the members of the Pawling Fire Department and the mutual aid Departments that operated throughout the night fighting not only the fire, but also the dangerous conditions created by the storm.
