2025 Community Grant Program Recipient: Sourland Conservancy
Project: Attracting Pollinators in Hopewell Borough 🌱🐝
"Building on past successes, this year’s efforts expanded our efforts at Hopewell Elementary School. The funding we received this year went to expanding the size by ~double its size. This work greatly enhances the pollinator garden in an area that was once mowed lawn. The event was spread across two days where 392 students were able to participate and plant. The focus of planting closed the space between the original planting and the nearby wetlands. This year there was a focus on adding woody shrubs such as Cornus racemosa (Gray Dogwood), Photinia pyrifolia (Red Chokeberry), and Cornus sericea (Red-twig Dogwood). These additional species add a layer to the garden that also gives additional food and shelter that continues even as herbaceous species overwinter."
