Today is Lights On Afterschool Day!

We’re celebrating a special first for Hopkins Community Education: Mayor Patrick Hanlon officially proclaimed Oct. 22 as Lights On Afterschool Day in Hopkins! Our Hopkins Community Education team attended Tuesday’s City Council meeting to mark this recognition.

Our afterschool programs give young people safe, welcoming spaces to build friendships, explore their interests and learn new skills. Thank you to our dedicated staff, families and community partners who help make these opportunities possible.

Take time just for you - Hawa Women's Health Club at Hopkins Community Education offers open swim and swim lessons for women. Instructors, lifeguards, and spaces are all women-only, so modest ladies can simply enjoy time swimming.

What can a film tell us about a society beyond the headlines? Just $5/ticket - age 16+
This Wednesday, October 21 at 6pm - Hopkins Eisenhower Community Center, join us for a screening of Asghar Farhadi’s Academy Award-winning film, A Separation (Iran, 2011), followed by a discussion facilitated by Mehdi Faraji, PhD. A marriage in crisis and the unexpected consequences that follow, A Separation offers a compelling window into family life, class, gender, religion, caregiving, and moral responsibility in contemporary Iran. The film also raises questions that reach far beyond Iran, to how ordinary people navigate competing obligations to family, work, truth, and one another.
