Today, we gathered for a simple act—but a meaningful one. We planted this tree in honor of a man whose roots ran deep in this community, and whose life will continue to bear fruit for years to come—Magistrate Mark Wells.

Mark wasn’t just someone who held a title. He was someone who showed up. He showed up for his family, for his church, for his neighbors, and for Christian County. Whether it was in the courtroom, at a community event, or standing over a grill at the soup kitchen, Mark believed in doing the work—and doing it the right way.

He had a way about him that made people feel seen and welcome. Folks often say someone “never met a stranger,” but with Mark, that wasn’t just a saying—it was a way of life. He built relationships the same way we plant this tree: with care, with intention, and with the hope that something lasting would grow.

As a magistrate, Mark helped shape decisions that will impact this county long after we’re gone. But more than any vote or project, his true legacy is in the lives he touched—the people he encouraged, the community he strengthened, and the example he set.

This tree is a fitting tribute. Like Mark, it will stand strong through seasons of change. It will provide shade and comfort. It will grow quietly, steadily, and faithfully—just as he did.

So as we plant this tree, let it serve as a living reminder of Mark Wells—his service, his spirit, and his love for this community.

And may we honor him not just today, but in how we live going forward—by showing up, by doing what’s right, and by investing in the people and places we call home.
