Today, we had the honor of celebrating two incredible careers as we say congratulations—and thank you—to Deputy Tammy Calvin and Major Davy Burd on their retirements from the Christian County Jail.

After 17 years of dedicated service, Deputy Tammy Calvin is retiring from her roles as Kitchen Liaison and Administrative Deputy for our Restrictive Custody Center. Tammy has been one of those people you could always count on to get the job done. Whether she was keeping things running behind the scenes or helping others throughout the day, she did it all with a positive attitude, dedication, and genuine care. Her hard work has made a lasting impact on our staff and our facility, and she'll definitely be missed.

Major Davy Burd is retiring after nearly 30 years of service. Over the course of his career, he wore many hats and served in a wide variety of positions, always stepping up wherever he was needed. His experience, leadership, and willingness to help others have left a mark on this organization that won't soon be forgotten. He's been a mentor, a leader, and a friend to many, and his influence will continue long after his last day in uniform.

Working in corrections isn't always easy. It takes commitment, patience, and a heart for serving others. Tammy and Davy have shown those qualities every single day throughout their careers, and our agency is better because of them.

From all of us at the Christian County Jail, thank you both for your years of service, your dedication, and everything you've done for this agency and our community.

Congratulations on your well-earned retirements! We hope this next chapter is filled with time for family, new adventures, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy everything you've worked so hard for.

Risk Is Not Just a Local Issue

Across the country, correctional facilities face similar challenges—staffing shortages, mental health crises, substance withdrawal, and unpredictable behavior.

These are not unique issues. They are widely recognized as operational realities.

Every week, our Chaplains, with the assistance of several local churches, facilitate the spiritual needs of our inmate population. Through these services, several inmates have requested baptism after making some personal decisions. Recently our Chaplains collaborated with these local churches to accommodate the inmates' wishes, leading to the baptism of several inmates. These individuals opted for baptism to lay a strong foundation for their life after incarceration. We appreciate the many community partners who contribute daily to transforming the future of our community.

Correctional Work Is a Public Safety Profession

Nationally, correctional officers are classified as public safety professionals.

Their role includes maintaining custody, responding to emergencies, managing violence, and protecting lives—often under unpredictable conditions.

This classification exists for a reason and is the standard for how we expect our deputies to be.

Arrangements for Sherri Guinn. Please keep her family and friends in your prayers.

Sherri Lynn Henderson Guinn, age 63, of Hopkinsville, KY, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Baptist Health Deaconess Madisonville of natural causes. Celebration of Life Services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with Pastor Ross Littlepage officiating and burial to follow in Ancestral Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday, May 29, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the service time at 1:00 PM. Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home has been entrusted by the family to handle the arrangements.

Sherri was born in Pembroke, KY, on August 22, 1962, the daughter of the late Delmon “Cowboy” and Mildred Geneva Price Henderson. Sherri retired after 31 ½ years of service at the Christian County Jail. She had obtained an Associates of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice. She was a member of Living Hope Baptist Church, a member of the KFOP, and the Kentucky Jailers Association. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Stephanie Lynn Guinn.

Survivors include her daughters, Ashley Tejada of Hopkinsville, Heather (Victor Jr.) Grubbs of Hopkinsville; her brother, Donnie (Denise) Henderson of Hopkinsville; and her four beloved grandchildren, Jazmira “Jazzy” Tejada, Alayna Wilson, Jae’lyn Tejada, and James Ryan Wilson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her memory to the Kentucky Sheriffs Boys and Girls Ranch at P.O. Box 57 Gilbertsville, KY 42044.

Whether you’re at a barbecue, the beach or like many of our staff who are at work today, we hope you take a moment to remember those that sacrificed themselves in the spirit of freedom. We should remember their sacrifice as well as their families’ sacrifice, so that we may live in peace. We can never repay them for what they gave! However, we can honor them by recognizing that we stand on their shoulders and make the most of the opportunities we have.
