The Ninigret Wheelmen, a local bicycling club in Hope Valley, pose with their bicycles in front of Locustville Mill. The club was established in 1894 and was open to men and women. The bicycling craze swept through the country, only dying down by the arrival of the automobile.

On May 5th, the HHA was delighted to host an opening reception for the exhibition "This I did to let you see": Threads of Literacy and Learning on Hopkinton Samplers.

Dr. Lynne Anderson, President of the Sampler Consortium International and Director of the Sampler Archive Project, presented a slideshow introducing historic samplers and their significance. The exhibition features many examples, highlighting the unique qualities of Hopkinton samplers and the stories of the girls who stitched themselves into local history.

The exhibition is on view at the 1790 Meeting House and Museum every Sunday from 10-2 through mid-October. An exhibition catalog is also available for purchase at the museum.

On April 12th, the HHA had a wonderful turnout at the Wood River Chapel in Richmond for our Annual Meeting & Luncheon. Thank you to everyone who came out and filled the tables with such delicious food!

President Lauri Arruda delivered some remarks about the HHA's coming events this year for the 250th anniversary of our country. The membership also re-elected our present officers for 2026-27: President Lauri Arruda, Vice-President Thad Ayazides, Treasurer Bill Capalbo, and Clerk Martha Baton. The HHA was then presented with a grant from the RI Senate to assist the HHA in its ongoing efforts to preserve the historical 1790 Meeting House and its important artifacts.

To close the afternoon, Martha Baton treated us to a delightful photographic tour of Hopkinton's villages -- a reminder of the history and stories that make our town so special. A heartfelt thank-you to all our members and donors who make this community shine.

2026 Museum Open Hours and Antique Sampler Preview

The Hopkinton Historical Association is pleased to announce our Museum Open House dates for 2026. This year we will be open on Sundays beginning on May 3rd and running through October 17th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

A special highlight of our season is a collection of 1700 and 1800 samplers which were embroidered by Hopkinton school girls in the early 1800s. This significant collection is directed by Lynne Anderson PhD of Oregon and Hopkinton and brought to us through the generosity of collectors along with our own sampler collection.

On Tuesday, May 5th, at 5:30 pm, the HHA will be hosting an opening reception for "This I did to let you see": Threads of Literacy and Learning on Hopkinton Samplers. Lynne Anderson will present a slide show introducing the samplers of the past and how important these pieces of art are to our history. She will be available to answer questions and sign an exhibition catalog featuring Hopkinton samplers. Refreshments will be served.

Please join us this year for a glimpse into Hopkinton's treasured past. We look forward to seeing you whether you are a new face or a returning patron. There is something for all to enjoy!
