Just over a week after returning home from the Timber Fire Hopland Fire Protection District personnel are redeployed to the Plaskett Fire. Engine 6165 and Chief 6100 as the strike team leader departed Hopland around midnight Sunday night and arrived at base camp at 0500 Monday morning. Crews are currently on the line supporting fire fighting efforts. Hopland Fire Protection District remains fully staffed and available to respond to calls for service. Hopland is joined by Mendocino Fire, Leggett Fire, Redwood Coast Fire, and Anderson Valley Fire.

Tuesday night Engine 6161 and Chief 6100 departed hopland and responded to the Timber Fire as part of XME2150C. The strike team arrived in king city around 02:00 am and is on the fire line today for a 24 hour shift. Hopland is joined by Leggett Valley Fire, South Coast Fire, Redwood Coast Fire, and Albion Little River Fire. B702 out of Lake County Fire Protection District is joining as a strike team leader trainee. Hopland Fire Protection District remains fully staffed and available to respond to calls of service by our payed and volunteer staff.

CAL FIRE Mendocino Unit aviation resources played a critical role in supporting firefighting operations on the Feliz Fire. From the air, crews delivered significant amounts of water and retardant while logging hundreds of flight hours in support of firefighters on the ground.

🚨 Feliz Fire Update 🚨

On Saturday, August 1, at approximately 3:40 PM, Hopland Fire Protection District was dispatched to a vegetation fire on Feliz Creek Road. First-arriving units found a fast-moving, rapidly growing fire.

Hopland Fire crews worked throughout the night alongside CAL FIRE and our mutual aid partners to help contain the fire and establish a secure perimeter. Firefighter personnel will remain in the area over the coming days. If you are traveling through the area, please slow down, remain vigilant, and use caution around emergency personnel and equipment.

Hopland Fire responded with the following resources:
• 3 Engines
• Overhead Personnel
• 1 Dozer
• 1 Swamper
• 1 Water Tender

These resources responded while we continued to provide fire and emergency medical coverage throughout the Hopland Fire Protection District.

We are grateful for the support of our mutual aid partners, including Lake County, who deployed a Local Government Task Force, and Sonoma County, who sent multiple strike teams to assist.

Thank you to all of the firefighters, dispatchers, support personnel, and partner agencies who have worked tirelessly to protect our communities.

Research Burn Scheduled

Mendocino County, CA–The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) Mendocino Unit will be conducting a research prescribed burn on the University of California’s Hopland Research and Extension Center (HREC) property. This prescribed burn will treat approximately 150 acres of grasslands, within oak woodlands, creating a mosaic of variously burned vegetation and islands of unburned habitat.

HREC is in the southern portion of Mendocino County, east of Highway 101, and east of the town of Hopland.

Burning will occur on Monday , June 8th, 2026. Burning will start at approximately 7 a.m. and conclude at approximately 3 p.m.

This project adds to significant work underway throughout the state and brings California one step closer towards meeting state fuels reduction goals directed by the California Fire Plan and the California Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan. This project burn will be conducted under strictly controlled weather and fuel conditions. Smoke and aircraft may be visible in the area.
