Heat Advisory Notice

Due to the extreme heat forecast, playground attendants will not be on site tomorrow (July 15).

If you're looking for a fun way to stay cool, we encourage everyone to visit the pool at Veterans Memorial Park, which is open daily from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A special thank you to Howard Traffic Control for sponsoring admission to the Pool this week (July 12-17), making it even easier for everyone to beat the heat!

Please remember to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during the hottest parts of the day, and take precautions to stay safe.

Congratulations to Firefighters Jordan Emo and Dale McMichael on their graduation from the 15-week New York State Academy of Fire Sciences Recruit Firefighter Training Program this morning. Both members demonstrated exceptional performance throughout the program. We are extremely proud of these two individuals and look forward to witnessing their future accomplishments.

We love hearing success stories from our pts. We typically don’t hear much after the calls over or the transfer is done. With permission from this individual, here is one success story that was sent to us to share. This gentleman survived the “widow maker heart attack “ which associates with a low survival rate. This gentleman not only got transferred once but twice due to a scare. (The same crew transferred both times) Glad to hear all is going well and huge shout out to the crew for their care and support”

Due to the forecasted extreme weather event expected to impact the City from Sunday into Monday, residents are asked to remove vehicles from City streets to assist with snow removal operations.

A citywide parking ban will be in effect beginning 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, through 12:00 p.m. on Monday, January 26. Please make alternate parking arrangements during this time.

Unnecessary travel is strongly discouraged during this weather event. If travel is unavoidable, please use extreme caution and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Please stay home when possible, stay safe and warm, and remember to check on neighbors and family members. Thank you for your cooperation.

Winter Travel Advisory – City of Hornell

The City of Hornell is issuing a winter travel advisory due to icy road and sidewalk conditions throughout the area.

Falling temperatures combined with continued sleet are creating hazardous conditions. Road salt is not effective at this time due to dropping temperatures and ongoing sleet.

Residents are strongly advised to avoid unnecessary driving. If travel is unavoidable, please:

* Drive at reduced speeds and increase following distance
* Use extreme caution on bridges, hills, intersections, and sidewalks
* Allow extra time to reach your destination
* Be alert for changing conditions and crews working as weather allows

City crews are monitoring conditions closely and will respond as weather and temperatures permit.

Please stay safe and limit travel.
