Hornell Fire Department Receives $20k Bethesda Foundation Grant

The City of Hornell is excited to announce receiving $20,000 from the Bethesda Foundation for the Hornell Fire Department. These grant funds were used to improve training equipment, including two mannequins and simulation monitoring equipment.

Fire Chief Frank Brzozowski noted his appreciation for the grant and highlighted the improvements the equipment will provide for the Department. “This grant allowed us to purchase two mannequins, including both an adult and a baby mannequin, which allows our department to improve our life-saving training. These mannequins provide simulated responses to interventions and the equipment provides real-time feedback, creating a more realistic learning experience.”

Brzozowski further detailed the improvements from the equipment. “This modern training equipment improves the training and education we provide, while also providing a cost savings by allowing courses to be completed locally, so our department and the groups we train don’t have to travel for this training. As a certified training site, with 12 instructors and over 500 classes held throughout the year, the benefits of this equipment will extend beyond our department.”

Brzozowski highlighted firefighter Kelsey Brzozowski who was instrumental in applying for these funds. “Firefighter Brzozowski did an excellent job completing the application for these funds. She has been working for six months and it’s really exciting to see this come to the finish line and the equipment into service. We greatly appreciate the Bethesda Foundation for their generous donation for this equipment.”

Mayor John Buckley also noted his appreciation for the donation, “I deeply appreciate the donation from the Bethesda Foundation for this equipment. Improved training experiences yield better results, and this equipment will be useful in improving outcomes during the most critical of calls.”

Shift 1 would like to give a loud shout out to Joe, Jay and their team at Racalto's . Joe wanted to make sure the members working today received their complimentary meal and hand delivered them piping hot to us. Thank you sir, we truly appreciate everything you guys do for fist responders and our community. The burgers were top notch and we definitely are full. Thank you again, from Shift 1!!!

The Department of Public Works will be milling the following streets on Monday, August 3rd and Tuesday, August 4, 2026:

Genesee Street
Collier Street
Cameron Avenue
E. Washington Street
S. Division Street
School Street

There will be an increase in heavy truck traffic and NO PARKING on these streets beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, August 3, 2026 until milling and cleanup is complete. Please find alternate places to park for the day prior to 7 a.m.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation and understanding while we make these necessary improvements to our City Streets.

** If you are experiencing issues with your water or sewer, please have it resolved before paving begins (paving is tentatively scheduled for the beginning of September). **

Come on out and enjoy a great time!

Good evening everyone. Here is a little information we would like to pass on. Presale tickets are ending tonight. $8.00 tickets are available at the door. Gates will open at 6pm tomorrow. We are keeping an eye on the weather and will let everyone know if we need to alter our times. We would like to say Thank You for all the support thus far and we cannot wait to see the stands filled with our families, friend's and neighbors tomorrow night!!!!

The City of Hornell will be flushing hydrants in the Town of Hornellsville, Village of North Hornell and the City of Hornell between the hours of 11:00 pm and 7:00 am starting Saturday, July 11th through Friday, July 17th.

Residents are encouraged to refrain from washing clothes during flushing hours and to check their water for discoloration before use. If you experience discolored water, let the cold water run until it clears.

Hydrant flushing is a part of necessary maintenance to the water distribution system. Your cooperation during this time is appreciated.
